It's incredible, but in my opinion I would use standard tuning for comfort when playing the G of the accompaniment (third fret instead of the fifth) even if the D support is lost in the last chord. For example, these are the first two bars:

E||---------0-----3-----2--0--|---------0-----------------| B||------3--------------3-----|--3--2-3----3--3-----2-----| G||--2--------2-----0--------|-----2---0-----2-----2-----| D||--4-----------------------|------------------2-----2--| A||---5-----0-----------------|---------------0-----------| D||---------------5-----------|--5------------------------| in Drop D tuning (DADGBE)

E||---------0-----3-----2--0--|---------0-----------------| B||------3--------------3-----|--3--2-3----3--3-----2-----| G||--2--------2-----0--------|-----2---0-----2-----2-----| D||--4-----------------------|------------------2-----2--| A||---5-----0-----------------|---------------0-----------| E||---------------3-----------|--3------------------------| in Standard tuning (EADGBE)
