hey all, i could use advice on buying a professional 88-key keyboard that I'll be using a whole lot. looking to spend 1,000 on something that has all the features and sound a real piano does. I plan to go to either best buy or guitar center... let me know what keyboards you own or wish you owned.

something the pros use like these guys:

Man that digital piano in the second video has such a smooth sound. Sure beats my Clavinova CLP860.

Hmm, most of the keyboards I'd recommend cost more than that. You could look for a used Kurzweil SP3X. Make sure you try every keyboard you can, and find one that's good for you (and if you buy something used, in good condition!).

If you were willing to spend more, the Nord Piano is amazing--it even has string resonance. The Nord Stage EX 88 is a really good stage piano / midi controller, and the Kurzweil PC3X (not the same as the SP3X I mentioned earlier) is Kurzweil's current "god" keyboard, which works as a synth / controller / workstation / etc. (Although they're going to introduce the PC3K8 soon.)

Also, you should check out the Piano World forums.

If my keyboard were stolen, that's the one I'd get to replace it :-)

. . . unless I got a Nord. Those things are awfully tempting. xD (I have a couple Nord units, but they're both rack mount. I control them from my Kurzweil.)

I'm not the best person to recommend studio speakers, so I won't try. I have a pair of Event1 PS6s (which aren't made anymore AFAIK), but they are pretty old and eventually I should replace them. You could ask on The Womb, or Gearslutz.

I love Kurzweil :D

OMG i got some krk rokit 5 gen 2 studio monitors and DAAAAAYUM....the sound is so much better than home theater.. i paid 272 for both and got 10' cable with both, but idk, should have gotten studio speakers long ago.

I personally really like Nord keyboards Like the nord piano 88, but for the price the roland RD series is great has a lot of features and sounds good. Or if I had a lot of money I Would get a Muse Receptor 2 and control it with an Akai MPK88 and have it running in stereo with two hpr three way speakers...if only.

Ugh I love the Nords too, but
