I'm a tab-newbie

Hi, I started playing guitar about a month ago and a few days ago I did this tab,
it's of the Airship theme from Super Mario Bros. 3. There's already one here but that one's in chords and I can't play chords yet so I made a simpler one. How is it?

Well... Maybe you could actually try to learn the chords instead of giving up and going to something easier?
Just work with your hands/fingers and try to fit it.

Yes.... but if the playing sounds like the song in question, what's the compulsion for chords?

If you're only playing one note then you're missing out on a lot of the sound.
Why take the easy way out when you could actually practice and try to get better so you actually sound good?

You don't necessarily have to

You don't necessarily have to use chords. Use your ears and decide.

In this case, though, you didn't get any of the notes right. I'd worry more about that right now, if I were you.

What? Would you prefer I didn't answer your question, or prefer that I pretend the notes were correct? I'm trying to help.

I just checked Juja's tab

I just checked Juja's tab (the one with the chords), and it's perfect. If you want to play without chords, then your notes should be some subset of the notes in his tab. Like, you could play the bottom notes of the first part, and the top notes of the rest.

I'd be doing you a disservice if I said "Yeah, sounds good" when the notes are wrong.

If you're looking at a tab that has two notes being played at once and you're not too confident to try that, you can either choose the higher or lower line and play that only.

- And there's nothing wrong with that.

Slash started out playing Smoke on The Water with a guitar that had only one string.

Playing a tab the way it's written might look hard sometimes, but it gets easier when you know the correct way to hold the shapes and position your fingers for playing the next few notes. That's not something we normally write into our tabs but you could ask for help on a specific part on the forums or on the tab's comments page and someone will help you understand it.

Hope that helps :)
