What about singing? How does one "Learn to Sing" ?

As far as I've known, there's been plenty of people who practice all the time... but they're still not any good (haha)

Me myself, would like to sing... but I was blessed with a voice that says otherwise :p

So yeah, can you teach yourself to sing? You know... Well? lol

If so, how?

you can practice voice exercises to stay in certain notes but if you werent blessed with a beatiful voice you are screwed up.

So singing belongs to a select few? I find that hard to believe, but it does make sense I suppose...

Just like anything else it takes practice and training.

You can practice ear training and sight singing to learn how to sing in tune and you can take voice lessons to learn how to sing well. You might not be the greatest singer in the world but anyone can sing if you go through those two steps.

Well Currently, I can't afford Lessons...

And I'm a VERY slow, at first, learner... it takes me forever to learn anything, but once I do, I usually get pretty far with it... but it's getting there that takes the time xD

Well anyway, any Specifics you can give me? like actually exercises, trainings? Something in-depth with detail, so I don't feel so discouraged :D

if you have a piano you can press a note and try to get your voice in that pitch. if you have a manly voice press the notes on the left if you have a high pitch chipmunk voice press the notes on the right.

Haha

I wonder where I lie

That's something to look in to!

But something more in-depth would be nice indeed

I believe that singing like most wind instruments requires good hearing and precise tonal and vocal movement. You can be great at Piano or Guitar and still suck at singing. I haven't sang since High School, but it takes little to no practice for me to be able to sing in pitch. It's strange but when tuning my guitar I notice almost instantaneously when my guitar is in pitch with the other string or not. I'm willing to bet that a lot of vocalists have good vocal genes :)

EDIT: On an icky side note. I have a problem where mucus constantly builds up in my throat and causes me to mess up vocally. So being healthy is another factor in singing well.

The way I see it, some people just have the gift of being able to maintain the perfect pitch when singing. For everyone else, there's vocal lessons. Lessons only go so far, though. If you look around, some of the very best singers and musicians never needed lessons.

hey dude, dont be down. anyone can learn to sing! i mean i know ur not tone deaf right? you play an instrument!!

all i can remember from elementary choir is open your mouth a little more, and sing with your diaphram, your lower chest. practice, practice, practice and try matching notes on guitar, the best i ever sang i was just jammin with my cds. check out crazy vocals like bjork and stuff. but yea just start by singing a hella lot more and learn to love your voice cuz its the only one you got!!

The real problem with singing is not learning the notes themselves (as long as you're not tone deaf). The real problem is learning to sing within your range.

For instance, I love singing Boston, Offspring, and Metallica, three VERY different styles. How do I sing them? My own way. I don't sing as high as Boston, so I drop the octaves and keep it within my own range. I don't have the same voice as The Offspring, so I sing them in my own voice and my own range. And I'm not even going to try to imitate Metallica, so I just do it my way. Basically, I make it sound how I would sing it. In a tone aspect, its correct. It just doesn't sound like the band. Keep that in mind and you should be fine. If not, then just grab a voice synthesizer and mod you're voice on the fly.
