That's so mainstreamish, man. ;)
But joke aside: I think "favorite" game just doesn't work. By naming one game I deeply wrong at least three other games which aren't less awesome; but different.
In Germany we have the saying "Man soll nicht Äpfel mit Birnen vergleichen." (translation: One may not compare apples with pears.)
But meh, since I'm probably boring you already, I'll just go with Alundra. I haven't actually played it more than others of my games, in fact I've only played it once so far. But this game is somewhat special to me: At least ten years ago, when my own repertoire of games covered not more than a handful of Game Boy and SNES games, I saw Alundra on a friends' PSX. It took some years until I understood what kind of treasure I had seen there: Alundra is extremely rare (at least here in Europe) and it does a fair job considering that it's competing with The Legend of Zelda. By that time my friend managed to damage his copy of Alundra enough to make the PSX reject reading it anymore. Since then I've been searching the internet and second hand stores for this game until Christmas three years ago, when my brother found a real worn-out, yet operative copy of Alundra.

Long post is long, and in fact I didn't even answer your question as I told you my most precious game instead of my favorite.

you're right. I guess what I'm asking is what are some games that really stood out, that you enjoyed more than any others?

Game I've beaten the Most: FF Tactics Advance
Most-played: Kingdom Hearts series (logged more hours in these games than any other, majority of time spend was on KH2)

Now for my Video Game Awards:

Halo series: Best FPS story and gameplay

FFVII: Most plot-twists (i.e. story the hardest to follow)

FFX: Best "I wish the game ended happier" ending

Fable 2: Most addicting

Gears of War series: Most realistic shooter gameplay (one of few games with a "take good cover or die" concept just like real combat)

Assassin's Creed: Funnest Historical Game

The Force Unleashed: Coolest concept (who doesn't want to be Sith Lord?)

Fire Emblem series: Best turn-based tactics game

FF Tactics Advance/War of the Lions: Deepest tactics game (not some much strategically, but from a character construction standpoint)

Kingdom Hearts series: Most Memorable Supporting Cast (Sora's cool, but I like the FF characters, Riku, Kairi, and Organization XIII)

I know this is very mainstreamish but I don't think it'll ever get any better than the Final Fantasy and Zelda games that came out in the late 90's. Maybe it's just because I was like 12 then, but those games, particularly Final Fantasy VII and Zelda: Ocarina of Time continue to stick out to me. I'll often find my imagination wandering off and recall the sense of wonder I had playing those games. And of course the music from those games is practically THE reason why this site exists.

I know I get no originality points but that's how I feel :)

Suikoden 2 here, despite the crappy translation. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a close second. I don't use it as an avatar for no reason.

Come to think of it, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Silent Hill 2 are up there too. I guess I am a Konami fanboy...

As sad as it is, I've never had a game tug at the heart strings so badly.

A few games I really love are...

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (the first video game I ever played)
Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (the first one that came out in English)
Final Fantasy VI (my first Final Fantasy)
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (first RPG)
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (I may be the only one who prefers this to Ocarina of Time)
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (the political storyline...loved it!)

This one's a hard one for me. I think it's a tie between Super Mario 64 and Paper Mario, both for the N64. I've replayed both of these games countless times and have never gotten bored of either of them. But, as it's been said, it's very hard to choose just one out of the many Ive played. Honorable mentions would probably be Chrono Trigger, any LoZ game, Dream Master: Little Nemo (For the NES, almost no one knows it), many FF games, Banjo-Kazooie, and the list goes on. I wouldn't be able to write all my favorite games, and all the ones I loved but didn't quite make it, in this space!

Hoshino Trigger! Definitely. Though, Final Fantasy VI would be a close second. I've played through those two many times, but the games I've beaten the most are probably Super Metroid and Mega Man X. I've probably completed Super Metroid and Mega Man X 20+ times each. I also think Smash Bros. Brawl probably has the best value in terms of hours of entertainment for your dollar. I've already put 600+ hours into Brawl on my Wii alone.

Here are my favorites:

Role-Playing Game: Tie Final Fantasy VII (1997)/Final Fantasy VIII (1999) (Main Characters have the most character development in the series)

Role-Playing/Survival Horror: Koudelka (2000) (Creepy, kinda like Dino Crisis and Parasite Eve)

Tactical RPG: Final Fantasy Tactics (1998) (So many customizations, and Epic Story for such a Chibi-Esque game)

Strategy: Age of Empires (1997) (It's a Builder that never gets old)

Survival Horror: Tie Silent Hill 3 (2003)/ Resident Evil 2 (1998) (Awesome, Eerie Atmosphere)

Psychological: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (2002) (This one actually made me think that I was losing my own Sanity)

FPS Shooter: Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) (Duke Nukem and Doom are great, but the story here owns them both)

Tactical Shooter: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001) (Smart shooter, Amazing graphics for its time)

Action/ Adventure: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) (Played so many great ones, but they can't touch this one.)

Platformer: Tie Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (1995)/ Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! (1996) (Ok, I admit that Yoshi is more fun, but they are both very creative in their own ways)

Adventure: Tie King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride (1994)/ The Longest Journey (2000)(Great Use of Imagination)

Fighting: Tie Tekken 3 (1998)/ Street Fighter Alpha 3 (1998) (So many great fighting games, but it comes down to these two for me)

Car Racing: Need for Speed II: Special Edition (1997) (Gotta love the Cartoonish-Humour; two words "Box Car")

Motorcycle Racing: Moto Racer (1997) (My First Computer Game)

Flight Simulator: EF2000 V2.0 (1997) (You Literally have to fly for hours to reach a destination, unless you press "S" to skip to location)

Sports: FIFA 99 (1998) (There were others which I enjoyed, but this one is most memorable)

Puzzle: Tetris (1985) (I know; same old, same old)

I can go on and on, but the 3 Nominee's are: FF7, FF8, and LOZ:OOT, but my award would go to Final Fantasy VIII, because of the Story and Characters.

Xenogears without a doubt. The story is more indepth than FF7 and the music is just as beautiful. It has so much information the only way to really catch the whole story and understand it is to play through it at least 2 or 3 times. Some may find it offensive though if your really religious or somethin since its got talks about god and stuff. But ya...i think ima go play it now

RPG - Earthbound/Mother 2, Phantasy Star II, and just to name something Final Fantasy... I'll go with VIII
Puzzle - Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
Fighting - Soul Calibur and Super Smash Bros. series.
Adventure - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Platform - Donkey Kong Country 2 and most Mega Man games
Action - Kirby Super Star
First Person Shooter - Halo. Goldeneye was cool too.
Racing - F-Zero X or Mario Kart

I'm not sure if I can say these are my "all time favorites," for those genres, but I enjoyed them. I'm sure I've played better under a few of the genres I mentioned, but I just can't think of them off the top of my head since there are so many.

no no no i totaly agree with you 100% Chrono Trigger was something special. Its like the characters of that game were more then just sprites on the screen you felt attached to them like you cared about what they were going through, no game to this date as touched my heart more the Chrono Trigger has.

I consider FF6 a better game than Chrono Trigger, but chrono is the most memorable game of all time.

Hi guys, first post :D

For my favorite game/s i'm pretty mainstream.

I can't really decide between FFVII and FFX and since i'm quite young i haven't been able to play many other FF's (except FF4).

I do really enjoy playing Valve's FPS games though.

Mainly Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 1 and 2 and Counter-Strike. Another good FPS i like is Star Wars: Republic Commando. Love it. Star Wars and FPS, 2 of my favorite things :P

Don't really enjoy Halo that much, haven't been able to play all of them, but so far it's been quite easy..

I like Super Smash Bros. games as well :3

I've got so many favorites from my childhood. But the #1 for me is Earthworm Jim (Sega Genesis). That game kicks so much ass, and it's also one of the funniest games ever.

It's a worm in a space suit. It just can't get any cooler than that.

Also, Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis) Beats Ninja Gaiden by a mile with superior level design. This and EWJ are games for the hardcore. You can't miss out on them if you truly are a hardcore gamer.

Legend of Zelda TP- Yes, it was very easy but the story line was cute and I just loved the game to death.

UNRELATED TO ZELDA:
