Need help with getting the right sound out of my amplifier.

I really need some help with this. I have a Line 6 Spider III 15 watt amp. I don't really know what to mess with to give me what. The sound I'm shooting for is this one.

It's a really sharp distortion, but it seems like any way that I tried to set my amp up it always comes up muddy and I don't know what to do.

That's because the built in line 6 distortion is like that. It's a good amp, and I like all the other effects besides the distortion.

but here's why, he uses (according to his profile) a boss gt-6 multi effects processor, which is probably where his distortion comes from. that or either the pod 2.

I have a line 6 spider and it's a good amp, but the distortion sounds bad to me. but you might want to invest in a good stomp box, which might go for around 100$ if you want more quality.

ok I messed around some and I found a pretty good lead sound you might like. Try using the metal setting with the drive about halfway, the bass a little more than half, the mid about half, the treble a little lower than half, turn the delay about 1/3 up and give it some reverb to your liking and see if that gives you a good lead sound. btw what kind of guitar are you using and what pickups?

Quick question with the set up, how do i do the delay thing? I don't really understand how to change it or even what it does. And I'm using a Squier Stratocaster with 3 single coil pickups.

I see the problem, you can't have reverb and delay because of the model. ok well the tape delay does about the same thing. here's a page that will help on effects, I don't feel like typing it all out ;)

it doesn't talk about chorus flanger, phaser, or tremolo though.

tremolo is easy to figure out just play with it. phaser makes a sound going up and down in pitch while you play, the more you turn this up the faster it gets. and for the chorus flanger...you might want to experiment with it. giving different amounts of the same effect can really change your sound.

just remember to get the most pro sounds it will cost lots of money, so try out the effects and see which ones appeal to you before buying the stomp boxes with more quality (and price). use the guide and your personal taste and you'll have a sound you like sooner or later.

oh and if you REALLY want good sounds, a preamp head with a cab or a halfstack are what most pros use....but we don't have the money for that :( or at least I don't. OH and in the future don't settle for a cheap solid state amp head, ever!
