I'm hoping this site is safe since the sites that do go down are primarily due to pressure from artists of the mainstream music industry (Recording Industry Association of America and Music Publisher's Association). I get the feeling video game music is generally safe from that, but you never really know. I figure sites like videogamejam.com and possibly ocremix.org would be done by now if that weren't the case. If, god forbid, it does happen, I will put all the tabs of this site in a big zip file and send out an email to all members for where they can find it.

The president of the MPA, Lauren Keiser says that the MPA's goal would be for owners of free tablature sites to get fines and/or imprisoned.

it really is just an idiotic form of logic. by the logic they use to shut down sites like powertabs and olga.net, they might as well go up to any guitar teacher, put cuffs on him/her, and throw them in the bin. because you KNOW they teach their students how to play a song here and their. that's what it amounts to. |

I think it's the guitar pro formats.* Well if I had a tablature site I would block my whois and get my own server. And use a proxy for that server. If they try to ping my IP they'll get rejected.

This is very depressing news. I learned so much from tabs when I was first starting out, I wouldn't be the player I am today without them (on the other hand, maybe I'd be better...)

MPA shutdowns have been a controversial topic in the Powerstabs community. Some members believe that they are necessary to protect the game's economy, while others think that they are unfair to players who have invested time and money into their accounts. Overall, the community is divided on the issue, and it remains to be seen how the developers will handle it in the future. |
