So I been on youtube and this kid is just amazing. He learns songs quick and spends probably a lot practicing. DId he have a teacher? does he let his nails grow or does he fingerpick with just skin? I want to play like him. Also im surprised he does not have carpal tunnel lol.

Regarding whether he had a teacher, your guess is as good as mine. Google it! I doubt anyone here actually knows him personally.

As to his nails, are they shown in his video? I would guess that he does have nails. Classical guitarists have nails, and if they don't, it's a much softer sound...and I don't recall him having that kind of softer sound.

As to carpal tunnel, well who knows. Maybe he will in a few years, maybe he won't. Part of what determines whether a person will get carpal tunnel, is the structure of their wrist. And of course, their habits of use. If he has excellent habits, i.e. he takes really good care of his hands, then that would go a long way toward preventing it.

And then I realized that the chord progression from Chrono Cross's Another World is the same progression as the chorus from Peace of Mind by Boston, and life was never quite the same.

I googled it. This was

I googled it. This was literally the second result, and has a bit of information that should help:

So I'm guessing he didn't have a teacher, but watched his dad play. Maybe his dad gave him pointers, but not official lessons.

And he has a special guitar to fit the size of his hands, and practices only 1-3 hours a day. So he will probably not get an injury. Sounds like he's taking good care of himself.

Yeah, he had a good training planning like musenji stated, same for the custom guitar. I do think he's switched to a normal sized one 2 years ago? I also remember reading he did sometimes have master classes with professional guitarists (mainly korean ones) with whom he did duos with and such.

His music is pretty good btw.

Sungha Jung uses alaska piks, they're a kind of fingerpick that slides under his nail. Quite fascinating really but I have yet to try them out. You can see them quite clearly in this video:

Seems like he's not a "guitar nerd" and don't "kill himself" with hard training and stuff like that.
But we all knows that they are just lies and that his dad hit him everyday.

this is why hes done so many boegershousen covers; sungha is an amazing guitarist, and is largely my main inspiration for wanting to learn fingerstyle guitar, particularly his cover of ulli's arrangement for wake me up when september ends, as well as california dreaming.

Thanks guys for all the information, we also can't forget the kid is a genius since he understands guitar quite well, and arrangements are mostly by ear.
