Here's something I play a lot, here is a personally written explanation on why you should play it with us.

Realm of the mad god is a bullet hell mmo.

Max level is achievable within an hour at most.

Look at all the fucking experience fuck

The main factor is skill, both in dodging and defeating strong enemies.

eeeeeek

If you die, you die, permadeath. You cannot loot graves and all equipment on your character is lost. Good equipment is actually easier to obtain because of this. Usually if I die, I can get high tier equipment within an hour by just hanging around the more dangerous areas of the map.

Fame is another point system. You gather fame by being a bad dude and killing bosses and high level mobs. Fame is also a currency, you "cash in" your fame on your character when he/she dies. You can use fame to buy temporary stat boosting potions, start a guild, or buy a coveted amulet of resurrection (expensive!).

There is also another currency known as realm gold. Realm gold is given as a gift for "donating" to the developers. Realm gold doesn't give you an unfair edge, it merely allows you to buy cosmetic additions like clothing dyes and pets. Stronger temporary boosting potions can also be bought. Extra character slots on the account (you are given only 1) and extra vault (storage) space can also be bought with realm gold.

There are several classes to pick from and most can be unlocked within 15 minutes. The classes are Wizard, Priest, Archer, Rogue, Warrior, Necromancer, Assassin, Huntress, Paladin, Knight, Sorcerer, Mystic, and Trickster.

It starts you as a wizard and you unlock a new class by reaching level 5 and level 20 with each new class you play.

Player standing can be determined by stars. You gain stars by reaching fame milestones with each class. The more stars you have the more likely someone will help you out when you need it. The community is generally helpful towards hard working players and it isn't unusual for someone to glance at your inventory and give you the piece of equipment you've badly needed to upgrade.

You can teleport freely to anyone in the world by selecting them on the minimap. There are also locking (friending) and trading commands.

If you'd like to play, suggest a guild name too. So far we're inching towards Thunder Coons.

As part of day 2 of the operation, I shall start to write a more in depth guide to being successful at the game.

This will cover how to level to 20 quickly and easily to post game.

In order to level to 20 quick, most players take part of what they call a "train." Trains are much like how they sound, a large group of people in a line ripping through multiple mobs along one of the roads that encircles the world.

Choo

Roads allow you to move much faster and since experience is cooperatively gained you can "ride" a train for 10 or so minutes and reach level 20 with relative ease. Finding trains is quite easy. Usually asking if there are any in the current world is the first step. If there is, you'll probably notice someone saying something along the lines of "Train here." To get there easily and without hassle, press enter to open up the chat window, type "/teleport player's name" and you're good to go.

Trains are more efficient than trying to gain experience off of high level mobs at an early level. There's actually a limit on the amount of experience you are allowed to receive off of high level mobs (gods, etc) if your level isn't high enough.

Reaching level 20 quickly and pain free should be natural after a while, and your sights will begin to transfix on bigger and better things.

So the next question is how to efficiently play as a level 20. The first step should be properly equipping yourself. Everything in the higher tiers is divided by the percent bonus of fame it adds upon death. For example, Drake skin armor has a 1% fame bonus, the tier above that is Roc Leather armor which gives a 2% fame bonus. It's a way of classifying the better armor, rings, abilities, and weapons in the realm.

Finding 1% equipment is quite easy for a level 20 to do. The first thing you should look for is Red Demon or Cyclops God events. Not only are the bosses beatable for a fresh level 20, but they guard chests which contain easily obtainable high level equipment. The second thing you should be doing (while waiting for the events to happen) is killing the strongest mobs in the world, gods of the realm. All the greater gods have a chance to drop 1% or better equipment.

http://forums.wildshadow.com/wiki/realm-mad-god/gods-realm

The above is a rough guide for explaining how to deal with each god. Remember, the most dangerous part of the map is closer to the center, and in that center is usually the godlands. Godlands contain all the higher level gods and there's no limit on how many you may run into. I recall running into a stack of 6 medusas that fired their 100+ damage bomb at once and killed about five or six fresh level 20's in a single moment.

Learn how to deal with each god type and always be ready to escape to the nexus. When you teleport to the someone who you think is in godlands, always keep one finger on the escape button. You never know what you're going to be thrown into; I've seen players teleport to me during intense fights ill prepared and have to escape right back to the nexus or worse.

Also, don't try to battle the harder events above Red Demon/Cyclops God like Skull Shrine, Cube God, Pentaract, Hermit God, Grand Sphinx, or Lord of the Lost Lands at a fresh level 20. You won't stand any chance until you get stronger.

I'll write the second part tomorrow. The main thing you should be doing at a fresh level 20 is learning how to fight gods while trying to grab loot from the above events.

Ah yes, it is time for day 3 of operation I'm too drunk to remember to go underway.

Last I left off I covered the basics of achieving a quick max level along with what you should set your sights to once levels are no longer obtainable.

Equipment is one thing, but the Gods of the realm also serve as a big stepping stone to permanently increasing your base stats. They all have a chance of dropping a certain type of stat potion, that when consumed raises your base stat by one. Stat potions are also, essentially, the community accepted currency when trading. All items are broken down into a number of stat potions to equate their total value. Top tier/rare items can be valued as high as over 200 defense potions.

Here's a price guide for shits: http://forums.wildshadow.com/node/36820

Here's some pictures of stat potions too.

Attack
Defense
Speed
Dexterity
Vitality
Wisdom
Life
Mana

The Gods of the realm only drop Defense, Attack, and Speed potions. The others are only dropped by event bosses and high level dungeon bosses. Ideally, you want to farm the gods long enough to max these 3 stats to whatever your class stat cap is. This will give you the survivability and DPS potential to take on the tougher bosses with relatively more success.

Information on which gods drop which potions can be found here: http://forums.wildshadow.com/wiki/realm-mad-god/stat-increase-potions

Considering you're going to be fighting gods for a little bit, you're going to want to become as efficient as possible when killing them.

Efficiency means

  • Knowing each god's attack patterns and exploits
  • The ability to manipulate the camera to your advantage
  • Being able to face large mobs of different gods successfully and quickly
  • Understanding the different dangers of being alone versus in a group

When it comes to knowing god patterns and attacks, I suggest first hand experience. Expect to take damage while learning, and take extra precautions than normal. Take the extra minute to stock up on health pots and mp pots (the number of mp pots depending on your class). Escaping to the nexus and healing as a substitute isn't suggested, as teleporting to the godlands is always a calculated risk. Taking the precautions I said earlier may save your life, but there is always a chance of teleporting in the line of several stacked shots and medusa bombs. Don't take it for granted and let your guard down.

You can find descriptions and simple strategies for all the gods here: http://forums.wildshadow.com/wiki/realm-mad-god/gods-realm

Knowing how to control the camera is what can separate a decent player from a very good one. The default centered view works, but often times you'll notice that the limiting factor is your field of vision. Gods will frequently fire at your from off camera and you'll have to react all the faster to avoid the shotgun volleys of death. The game was originally designed for the off center camera view you can switch to in the options menu.

The first thing you'll notice is the increased field of vision in front of your character. This is extremely handy when it comes to seeing what's coming towards you and gives you A LOT more slack in terms of reacting to bullets coming at you. This doubles if you're a long range class like the wizard and can effectively get the drop on gods. The con to this is that the field of vision behind your character is much less. This makes the ability to be able to rotate your camera while moving and attacking a must in order to get the big advantages out of this view. It's quite disorienting at first, but it took only minutes for me to realize how much easier it was to deal with high level enemies.

It is also worth noting that utilizing the minimap while using off centered view is much more important and plays a big role in making sure you don't get surrounded. Know how to zoom in and out quickly and be able to keep an eye on it if you're running from a dangerous group of gods.

The trick to facing big condensed groups of gods is knowing which ones chase you the farthest and how to best take advantage of your class ability. After taking down gods for a while, you'll notice that medusas are very very agressive and will give chase almost immediately wheras sprite gods do not pursue you. Making a few gods chase you from a large herd is the easiest way to thin out the pack. I'll list some pointers for each class on how to take advantage of your ability for these specific situations.

Wizard - Focus your spell on one enemy at a time if you can. Aim just above the feet, in the very center of their sprite to connect all the shots and do significant damage. You'll want to aim for the most dangerous gods of the group first. By running up and casting one or two quick spells you have the potential to kill one of the more dangerous mobs while making a few chase you for future dividing and conquering.

Priest - You have a goddamn instant heal, save it for ballsy maneuvers but don't depend on it as an excuse to be completely reckless. Never underestimate the amount of damage you can take in an instant.

Rogue - Cloaking is a great way to, not only kill the most dangerous gods in the group, but also snag the loot without much hassle either! A word of caution, beware fellow players when you're cloaked. You may be caught in a potentially fatal line of fire.

Archer - The super shot has incredibly long range and deals decent damage. The real advantage though is being able to paralyze an enemy. You can freeze multiple lined up gods for a few moments with a well-aimed shot. Otherwise, utilize the archer's piercing ability to do great group damage to the mob.

Warrior - He isn't suited to charging big groups of gods, especially if he's a fresh lvl 20. As with all sword users, make all the use of cover when its available. His Dex up ability can really turn you into a short range meat grinder, but it's a very dangerous game of minimizing damage, watching your health, and pissing everywhere.

Knight - Taking cover is even more in your favor as your shield bash can go through rocks and trees. Stun is a great status effect when it's in your favor; making any enemy mob unable to fire at your for a few seconds. This becomes a matter of luring a clump of gods while you're behind a rock, stunning them, and unleashing the fury while your glorious DEF and high HP absorb the fuck out of everything.

Paladin - Cast that fucking hp regen and be a man.

Necromancer - More enemies to cast your ability on equates to more health gained. Beware, as sometimes if you cast this on a massive number of enemies you'll lag the game. Otherwise, it makes the necromancer a great survivor in these situations; allowing you to mitigate the damage caused by baiting gods out of the group by healing yourself and possible allies.

Sorcerer - Chain lighting is one of my least favorite abilities because it is ultimately limited to how many enemies it can affect depending on your equipment. It does okay damage, but it doesn't quite make up for being a long range low damage wand user.

Assassin - Crowd control is the specialty of this class. Poison can do a big amount of damage to a large crowd of mobs, granted, you give it the little time it needs to kick in.

Trickster - The teleport ability is pretty fun and leaves a lot of variation regarding on how you use it. You can effectively split groups down the middle by forcing them to attack your decoy for a few moments.

Mystic - Stasis is a much easier way to split a group. Simply stasis half the squad and kill as many as you can before the impromptu reinforcements wake up.

Huntress - She may have a bow and the pierce effect, but traps simply don't have the pure AoE damage dealing as poison does for the assassin.

The last important thing is knowing the different risks involved with hunting gods alone versus in a group. The risks while solo'ing are rather obvious in terms of being overran or surrounded but that liability of hunting with a group is a little more complicated.

Obviously some classes excel more within groups than they would alone, so knowing the risks involved is a good closure to surviving effectively in the godlands. Chances are there's always going to be someone who clumsily engages more gods than they'd like and ends up being forced to run back to the group with several angry gods in tow. The screenshot I posted at the beginning of this post is a testament to the destructive potential of a few mad medusas. Even if you're with a small known group or guild, someone is liable to teleport to you sooner or later, and there's always the chance of it being someone who's still learning how to deal with the godlands. Worse yet, a complete newbie may tele in just to lead a pack of gods into your flank.

Also, keep in mind that if there is someone in front of you while you are rushing towards a group of gods, bullets will already be in transit and you may run right into a few shots if you're not careful.

Part 4 will consist of encountering high level dungeons and event level bosses. This will be all for now.
