Gametab's Challenge Riff/Lick of the Week #4

Who's down for Gametabs's challenge riff/lick of the week.
If you master it, I guarantee your technique will improve big time.

This week I challenge you with strict alternate picking riff from one of Kobayashi Shinichi's grinding song.

I turned the level down a little because I really hope to see a lot more people participate in these competitions.

Please do participate and post a video even if you have not mastered this riff so feedback can be provided to help you improve!

Q&A

Mastering? What counts as mastering?
Playing with precision and cleanly at the given tempo, not going offbeat at all.

Okay so what do I have to do?
Record yourself playing the riff/lick with just audio or audio with video(preferred). If you do not record with the backing track, please at least use a metronome so we know you are playing at the right tempo. Once you meet the criteria above, post a reply and your entry will be posted at the bottom of this post.

How many times do I play it?
Play licks once. Riffs will be specified by the poster.

Can I play it differently than how it is tabbed?
Sure. You can change the positioning of the notes, but do not add or remove notes, or do anything that can be considered cheating.

What do I get if I win?
Winner of each week will be featured on the front page with a link to his/her entry as an article. Winner also gets to choose next riff or lick. But that's just for fun, the real reward will be towards your own guitar technique.

What riff or lick can the winner choose for the next challenge?
Anything that the winner is able to play and believes that it will help people improve their technique.
This is NOT a I betcha can't play this thread!

What anti-trolling rules are in place for the winner?
If requested, the winner will have to post a video of himself playing the riff/lick he chose in case his riff/lick seems impossible!

yeah, even though the amount of entries we get per week is relatively low, response for these weekly riff challenges has been more than positive, i'm even seeing a huge improvement in people who have showed me their progress over with these weekly riffs over irc and msn, we all gotta thank Ash though, our gracious new Overlord of the tab for giving his full support towards these events as well, in the end the only real objective with these is to motivate people to practice and have fun. now then!

I always thought it would be neater to make a chord progression and have the people write over it. and the winner makes the next one. So atlease the winner does not have to go out and work to make a video and everything for the next week.

Yes, but, everyone plays the same riff so that judging is fair and mostly objective. Also, the competition is about improving people's technique, not their theory/compositional skills. Not that I'm saying improving theory would be a bad thing, it's just not the focus of the challenges.

Yes Kiku is right lol, albeit I was thinking if I took this one I would change it so that people solo over a backing track to see what kind of stuff people would come up with. but then as kiku has stated, it kinda beats the point of these challenges.

I would love to win one of these and then post some really difficult classical guitar lick. But I won't, because I am so far behind the field for using a pick that I'd never catch up. Which is okay.

also, cpx, this is some really awesome practice for alternate picking and overall technique.

id take part if i had means of recording, but alas, i have not. i enjoy kitting up this threads now and then though, to see what new licks have arisen, and try my hand at some of em. tricky stuff in each so far, practice wise, this is my favorite though i think.

I think it would be beneficial if there were .mid files that had the backing track at 50% and/or 75% speed for practice. Not everyone has programs to reduce the tempo.

You can reduce tempo in guitar pro or tuxguitar so the mid file is just there to actually record the song.

For those who want to hear this riff along with actual instruments...

For what it's worth. I recorded something.
Once again Tuxguitar's tempo was different to GuitarPros so no backing track lol.
Also, my 12th frets have a lot of buzz hence the...incredibly crappy sounding ending.
