i also broke my arm once upon a when. stupider than yours bacardi haha. i ran into a wall -_- after that i underwent my own regime of physiotherapy to keep my arm strong. i played guitar, even with my cast on, i still played. my doctor encouraged it, he said if i kept it up, my arm would be no different than before, only a little bit weaker than the norm for the first little while i had my cast off. i dont have a lot of strength in my arms, now mind, but enough to get me by. i play floor hockey too, so it keeps me well toned, if not in good shape (i still have an ethiopian belly, so tis called) but im not overweight by any means. my strength is found in my legs, i walk everywhere, and i prefer to walk places, depending on distance and weather, and regularly take time to have a walk, to stay in some moderate form of fitness. i dont set myself to any particular regimen as some people do, but i do well enough for what i do do.

Ok Ok : I allways was a slim guy and I was ok with that, cuz afterall I had kinda luck with girls, but I started to want to build some muscles. Than I see in this forum pic of Bacardi and KabukiBeear. And they kinda inspired me. So I start to do everyday Pushups and all that basic training, more and more, day after day. Nothing special, just start to do some training and be less lazy. Now is like 4 month and I'm kinda happy of what I "Get", I see some result. I'm little more strong and I have builded some muscles. I don't know if I want to post pic cuz I'm kinda shy about my naked chest . . . but well we will see.

wayfaerer, you are already so thin you probably don't need to do much :P I actually fell on my arm again when it was broken. I was kicking a ball back and forth with some kid and slipped on the gravel and fell RIGHT fucking on it. It hurt like I broke it all over again, I never told anyone but the doctor said it seemed to be healing better LOL so I was like whatever. I think they say when a broken bone heals itself, it's stronger, right? Pasto I am glad you got inspired by us. That makes everything I've shared worth it. Also about food, I haven't really changed my diet much, but it was pretty decent to begin with. Lots of water daily (60-100oz), no pop, beer maybe once a week XD I don't care for beef or pork, I eat a lot of chicken and turkey. No fast food. I do pretty well. |

they say a steady and consistent diet is much more beneficial than immediately switching over to some generic dieting plan. the only regular meal i eat is supper, everything else is snacks in between. i eat a lot of sandwiches and tv dinners. also i regularly make chili, lasagna, pizza, spaghetti, chicken alfredo, among other things like gourmet potatoes and desserts. thats not to encourage eating such foods, but it is to encourage a regular diet with little deviation. it keeps your body regular. i remember i tried being vegen... boy was i sick for like 3 weeks. said fuck this, i want some chicken. now im a very proud omnivore.

Yeah. I have a lot of friends who are really into fitness and training, and take supplements and worry about the numbers. I'm not into it THAT much because I don't feel like it's a competition or anything, but it's nice to have people around me who care anyway. Not sure if you've ever been to the US, but a LOT (at least half) of the people here are overweight. It's disgusting. I hate fat people, but I won't go on that rant. I have fat friends and I'm fine with that, I draw the line when they try to date/sleep with me or if THEY criticise MY looks lulz. The only issue with TV dinners is the sodium really. Too much salt can raise blood pressure. I actually dont' put salt on anything I eat, but the sodium I get from normal foods I don't worry too much about, as I have low blood pressure to begin with. I also am very careful about sugars. I get really pissy/bitchy if I haven't eaten and I've been hungry for a while because my blood sugar drops. Not diabetes, just get grouchy until I eat. I am very sensitive to sugar and caffeine because I rarely intake any of them. A cup of coffee would have me jittery. I ate a few pieces of Halloween candy this year and had a headache afterward LOL. But yeah, I just really make sure I eat enough for energy to keep my metabolism up. Running for 1/2 hour every day really turns the heat up. I'd honestly like to get a Bowflex one of these days. LOL |

a "'scuse the 'tude, ive had no food" sorta thing huh? im like that too, i think we as humans are like it really. we actually had a bowflex at residence in CONA while i was there, and i dunno if the damned thing wasnt set up right or what, but it was fuckin useless, i felt more tone to my muscles after taken an extrenuous shit. k, maybe not, but point being, bowflex contraptions aint what theyre cracked up to be, imho. i dont HATE fat people, per se, only when they stink and their fingers are full of greasy crumbs and they incessantly have to be touching you to get your attention. also it sucks when they try to get me in bed... ugh. anywho, having a consistent and a constant regime of fitness is just as beneficial as having a bowflex. i aint chiseled, far from it, but im content with how i look, for the msot part, and when it comes to being fit, i think contentedness is the ultimate goal.

Well, I haven't actually used a Bowflex, but I think I could get a lot out of it. I'm still lifting about 17 lbs per hand and it's useful, and that's after years and years so I don't need that much resistance. I have a feeling I produce more testosterone than most females due to how much I exercise/lift, but I'm still very female lol so my muscles will not get that big. Also would be nice to get some ab lifting in. I do ball crunches and leg lifts but you know how stubborn that area is. You are also 20 you said? Yeah, wait til your mid to late 20s, it'll change on how easy it is to stay in the same shape :P I went all through life as a skinny kid, never got fat or anything, but when I hit 15ish I wasn't as active as I used to be, stayed thin and all but just no muscle tone. It wasn't until a year ago when I started running that I actually had muscles on my legs. Crazy. I am sure beer contributes to not having a completely flat stomach, I can't decide if I can give that up though. At this point I'm at a couple per week, so not that bad at all. I need to start protein shakes as well. Two days ago I did the 1/2 hour of running up&down the stairs, and my calves are STILL sore. I did it barefoot to try to prepare myself for the minimalist shoes I'm getting, and it's true what everybody says, it's pretty rough on your calves. That's a good thing, but man I'm still hobbling a bit today. I also got a bit of a cold and my head hurts. I'm considering going running, but with it being near 30 degrees I have a feeling I might get a nose bleed. Meh, maybe I'll just do squats today. |

I sadly must admit that after getting a gf I stopped working out. Though part of that was because the DAY AFTER I got a gf, I had a bike accident, fracturing my left wrist and my right elbow. But possibly part of it is that I was motivated by the desire to "be attractive" and that has fallen a bit having snagged someone. I think, however, that if I started working out again I would feel better about myself (not that I feel really bad, I'd just feel better), and that my energy levels would go up again. Though I still have trouble with my wrist. The job I just got is part-time janitorial, I'm sure that's burning some carbs... I should return to doing crunches and pushups every day.

I do it for myself, to look the way I want to look, so I definitely wouldn't stop if I was dating someone but...I'm indefinitely single :P I did go running today after a few days with the calf injury. Well, I think part of my motivation was just to feel better about myself and have more energy. But what kept me going was the knowledge that with a better body would come more positive reactions from females. I didn't expect it to be "the decisive factor" or anything, but I thought, all other things equal, females like good bodies too. So I figured working out = good in that regard. Plus it has the double benefit that I become more confident around women, believing that their opinion of me would go up--and said confidence would raise their opinion even more, because if there's one thing that over 90 percent of women say they like in a guy (and the other 10 like even if they don't know it) is confidence. Not arrogance, but confidence. I haven't been able to lift heavy weights since the accident--or at least, I haven't been willing to, as my left wrist still hurts when I play guitar. So that's ONE reason I stopped. The second reason would be the result of knowing I'd snagged a girl. The third reason would be that, having snagged a girl, we spend lots of time together and I have less free time to fit in working out. BUT, I have done pilates with her (laugh all you want guys, I did them before ever meeting her). And biked, and I'm sure once it gets warm outside we'll return to biking. Nutrition is a factor as well. We have had a pattern of making "fun" food together, which usually amounts to snacks. Though we've cooked healthy food too, I think us being together has had a negative effect on both our diets.

Lemon, I was like that when I started. I kept at it everyday and well a year later running for a half hour is no big deal at all, the only time I ever to have to stop is to take a drink or let my heart slow down. I actually haven't lost any weight from running. I ate/eat good anyway, and always drink a lot of water, so I think I was already doing good as far as diet, although I'm sure cutting beer out completely would be even better. lol Like I said, I lift weights, and I have gained a lot of leg muscle, so I am guessing that's the reason I weigh the same. I look pretty different below the waist though, so I know it's done well. |

Can I just mention Lemon that even if eating out isn't a health concern (which it totally is if we're talking about fast food or anything remotely similar), it adds up REALLY quick. I used to blow my paychecks on stupid shit all the time but then I made a vow to not do that anymore and my money was STILL drying up constantly. I realized that it was because I was going out to eat instead of just eating at home or bringing lunches to work etc. So yeah, that shit adds up. |

It does. Running and learning the guitar are the two things that have shown me the insane amount of drive I have within me. It's like when I decide to do something, I fucking get it done. It'd be nice if I could apply it to ANYTHING, but it kinda just happens :) Agreed on eating out being expensive too. Beer is the same thing too, I know Lemon isn't old enough yet, but drinking costs a lot if you do it enough. I'm down to once a week, I'm really thinking about quitting beer altogether as it's a bunch of empty calories. I like drinking though, I think it's a fun social activity and have had some great times with friends. Liquor would be a better alternative, but can cost just as much and isn't as easy to gauge amounts (I'm a lightweight, I feel one beer easily). |
Had to pretty much stop
HakoriaLaon King Location: gmt+1 Joined: Apr 03 2011 |
Had to pretty much stop drinking since I've started living alone because it's way too expensive when you're very resistant and now with my current economical situation I just can't afford it. I need 50+ euros to get in a good state (not overly drunk) if it's in bars; if I haven't eaten for 24+ hours it's around 3~4L of beer to be in a good state. If I ate beer just doesn't do anything nowadays; genetic resistance at first but now it's been followed by 5 years of drinking out often (legal age to get even strong liquor is 16 in luxemland, huzzah! I made fake IDs for friends and myself before then, I consider myself stupid for that but I got lucky in the end and no one ever had problems) -citron: And 1 mile in 11 minutes is quite bad indeed. I don't really know if I could lie to cheer you up since you know yourself that it's quite an exceptional accomplishment; not saying this in a bad way but lying to you would mock you more imo <: inb4 workout thread completely becoming AA thread. |

Unfortunately I've regressed in my fitness level a little bit since starting grad school. I haven't had the time to workout as much as I did during the summer, and I've gotten a little careless in my diet. I'm still in really good shape, but too many angst-filled weekend celebrations involving beer and pizza have caught up with me, and I hurt my knee a few months ago and haven't been able to run like I used to. Luckily I've been back on track lately I expect to go real fuckin' hard at it over winter break and beyond. Discipline in diet is key!!! We should have a thread dedicated to diet only.

Nah Pasto, you speak the truth. I was talking to a friend of mine who is a personal trainer and I'm going to try no beer for 2 weeks and see if I get a flat stomach. I'm almost there now but it's not perfect lol. I mean I am definitely fine as it is, just curious if the beer is making it worse. Also, don't forget the drunk munchies! If no change then I'm going to adjust my caloric intake. I'm not very good about that, as I need like 2300 per day due to how much I work out, but I usually only get like 1200-1500. It's hard to get that while avoiding fat, sugar and salt. :/ I also changed up running a bit. It was 43 degrees tonight, wonderful night. I ran all flat ground and stayed out for about an hour (usually do steep hills for 1/2 hour). It didn't work my thighs as hard but I enjoyed doing something different for once. I'm going to drive it in my car to see exactly how far a mile will be and time myself, I'll try to get that done tomorrow. Last time I checked I was around 7 min for a mile and that was quite some time ago. |

archardJoined: Jan 11 2007 |
Staying away from alcohol def helps a lot. The drunk munchies do the worst damage, IMO, as discipline tends to be the first virtue to leave me when I start drinking. But you also have to consider that each beer has like 100-150 calories. And when you go from good shape to great shape, it's the little details that count. BTW a caloric deficit of 1000 calories a day is insane. Are you sure that's all you're eating each day? Dayum.

And yeah, I usually get really busy and don't eat very often. When I first started running hard I ate a lot more, because of the workout, and some days I really do eat frequently, but then some days I just eat when I get a minute lol. Because Im a smaller guy It's much harder to gain weight So I have to make sure im doing allot of carbs everyday whenever I can. I avoid cardio for the most part. And take a day off between workouts. p.s. when i say a "set" I mean like 6-8 presses with enough weight that your pushing yourself at your limit. No point in doing enough weight that it's easy and you can do 20 of them. All that does is tone and nothing for getting bigger.

One of these days I'll pick up some whey protein. My arms do okay with it (as you can see), I only have so much testosterone ;) I don't need anymore, anyway! Yeah, I never tried proteins either. Just wondered what people say about them. I feel you bac. Nothing worse than having the will to workout but not being able to... And why would you want to use proteins? I never imagined a girl using them. I always thought it's just for body builders and highschool boys. |

Lol ragna, that don't look like a guy, does it? :D Don't worry bro, when I came to this site I was calling Auriplane "mate" till somebody told me she's a girl.. XD It happens. Anyway, we're talking about getting muscles, gaining weight etc. but I was wondering if any you do stretching exercises and yoga as well. You know, headstand, handstand, splits, that kind of thing. I think it's kinda important to have an all-around training regime. If you're just building muscles you'll end up with no flexibly and bad balance. A pile of muscles walking like bear, something like that. First thing I've learned at gymnastics is stretching before and after the workout. That way you'll get flexible and your muscles become longer and more athletic, instead of cannon-ball-like, like those of bodybuilders. And yoga... Best way to relax. Ever... :) |

Ok so let's start one, since some people get very upset if we talk about it in other threads. Talk about what you're doing, have done, where you want to be. No ego is too big for this thread! Pics help too.
To begin, I've been running daily for a year. First 2 months was like 5-10 min lol, then the next few months like 15 min, then for the past, IDK, 5 or 6 months I'm at 30-40. I've gone in snow, rain, extreme humidity, heat, with a cold, you name it. It's starting to suck now because I'm out there much longer and the thinner air is making it hard to breathe. We've actually been having a mild winter so far, so the cold hasn't bothered me at all, in fact I'm still going in shorts. I also have been having problems with shin splints, so new shoes for xmas for myself. That's going to put off a guitar, but this is way more important. I found out I underpronate, which means I step on the outside of my foot and explains why my shins hurt on the inside.
Anyway, I fucking love running. I wasn't fat to start with, actually I just kinda wanted calves, but I got so much more out of it. My legs are toned and I burned what little fat I had off. Seriously they are 2/3 the size they were, and pretty thin now. It's made me feel even better about myself because I know I have the drive within me to accomplish the goals I want to. Nothing has stopped me from running, I actually look forward to it everyday. When I look at how I've changed below the belt it inspires me even more. I might try a half marathon next year, maybe not LOL we'll see. But definitely a 5k would be in the future.
I also have been lifting on and off since I was 13 (13 years ago) after I broke my arm...LOL stupid story, the short of it is I fell out of a tree. My arm looked deathly thin when it was finally healed and I was advised to do a bit of lifting. It just kinda stuck with me. I usually do every other day, sometimes everyday, depends how I feel.
I wanted to make this thread so 1) we could talk about it without bitching and 2) seeing other people succeed may inspire others. I know people in my life who look the way I want to. I think about that when I am working out. I am the most critical of myself, even though I do have a bit of an ego. Like, I know someone who has legs like I want. I constantly think, what do I have left to do to get there? I think when you believe you're "perfect" and content, is when you fall off the horse and start failing.
