Hey tabbers and players!

@Belcat  - Aug. 26, 2012, 10:44 p.m.

Hi everyone! I'm new to tabbing and playing. Im trying to self teach myself and was told by a friend that game tabs can be the easiest to learn and can also be the hardest to learn. Im not assuming that I can just jump in head first and let out a perfect Mega Man 3 lol. I am trying to learn acoustic as i was told it was a "gateway instrument" and after a 2 week period I can play Zanarkand, Aerith's Theme, Super Mario (classic) and am learning the basic MGS theme. Want a would like to know, is there any other tabs that I should be looking at learing to play to kind of help me get better?

Once again, Hello! This site is awesome and I will be visiting frequently.....

What jez said. A good (emphasis on good) teacher would help a lot. I can't really recommend any tabs in particular, but it sounds like your goal is to teach yourself and improve. So, I'm going to give some advice!

  • You want to stay motivated, so pick out your own music--stuff you like! :-D
  • Pay attention. Lots of attention! Pay attention to how you sit, how you hold your instrument, what your hands are doing; pay attention to every note that doesn't sound right. Don't just keep going--slow down, figure out what went wrong, fix the mistake and play it right!
  • Once you figure out the right way to do something, be consistent so you can develop muscle memory.
  • Use a metronome!
  • Research! You don't know how to teach yourself yet. I really like this series on Guitarchitecture, especially part 3. You might also want to read this if you want to play barre chords.
Welcome to Gametabs!!

^What auri said. In addition: you're doing very well if you can play such titles (even if not perfectly, but at least by heart) properly although it does depend on the arrangement you picked up. tl;dr: 'soup and keep at it, efforts and practice will always give results.

Hi! Great enthusiasm =D welcome Learning songs and tabs is a great way to get good practice, but also a dangerous way to get bad habits if you're just starting out. Sometimes we find fingering or way-to-play solutions for a particular task that end up being poor overall solutions that can impede higher level playing (not using the pinky for example! I fell for that one :( ) That said, there is no one universal or proper way to play guitar, in fact many virtuosic players developed unique styles that are/were far from 'normal' efficient playing. EDIT: (this is the specific example I was thinking of, Django Reinhardt. A fire left his left hand impaired; he compensated well!) http://youtu.be/fzz6fAdFFis My suggestion is to seek out some initial guitar lessons from a good guitar or music teacher. They can set you up with effective technique and exercises to hone and engrave those techniques in your playing. Even if you can play well already, tips from an advanced player can never go wrong. An important investment early on, especially to avoid bad habit traps. cheers and happy playing

You will practice swimming, flying, and jumping skills while playing duck life. This is really a fun duck game for you.
