I only skimmed the tab but it looks like what you're talking about are the natural harmonics. Just drape your finger lightly over the designated frets fret metal (as opposed to pushing down normally on a fret) and pluck the string. It should make a different kind of sound than normal.

I'm really bad at explaining this :E

Here's the first video I found on youtube. I didn't actually watch it so it could be terrible.

Just to avoid any confusion:

Just to avoid any confusion: the metal thing IS the fret.

That is the natural harmonic. The number just means where you are playing the natural harmonic. the 7th fret and the 12th fret are very common ones.

Scientifically, the natural

Scientifically, the natural harmonic is the fundamental frequency of the source note multiplied by an integer coefficient. Suppose we have a frequency of an A note, open string 5, at 110 Hz. Multiply this by 2, and we get the frequency value of the 12th fret of the A string, one octave up.

TO PLAY A NATURAL HARMONIC:

Place one finger lightly on the first fret of any string, but do not press down. It should have a muted sound when you pluck. This is the amount of pressure you apply. Now move your finger to the 12th fret of any string, and pluck, and release your finger right after you pluck. The sound is different now, it sounds very flutelike, and the sound will decay like an open string. This is the sound I meant for the piece.

In any case, you are able to play the <>12 as a normal 12 if you really want, because the note is the same.

♪ :)
