First band/group

Anyone have any good stories of their first experience playing with others? Please regale me with stories where things turned out much better than you expected, or so much worse that whatever I experience I will know someone has it worse.
  

I am not a very good player, and I've never played with others before. Then this happened:

Dan (drummer): "Let's play video game music on real instruments!"
Me: "OK, but I kind of suck at guitar"
D: "Pssh, how hard is it to play NES songs?"
Me: "OK, good point, let's do this."
*elapse two weeks, Dan talks to other interested parties*
D: "We're going to do all Castlevania music."
Me: *cry*

So the short story is I was OK with the idea of fucking around and doing some 8-bit retro stuff, and now I think I'm being roped into doing the most technically demanding series from that genre. I'm scared I'm going to make a goddamn fool of myself.

Anyone else feel like they got in over their head? Did you rise to the challenge, or were your instincts right?

I remember the battle of the bands when i was in middle school, i was playing electric guitar tunned in D, and one of my strings snapped in the middle of a song, desperate i unplugged it with the volume at max and the classic explosion sound appeared, i ran to the other bands asking for a guitar tunned in D while the other members continue playing, one guy gave me a guitar, i plugged it and continue playing, nothing was wrong since i was using the high strings for fillers, but when we hit the bridge of the song i started playing in the E string and t wasnt tunned in D so it sounded completely wrong and i couldnt stop to tune my guitar, there were many laughs in the next day but it actually became one funny memory.

oO, for a drummer maybe...
There's some really hard tunes, especially in the Castelvania serie.
Though you're pretty lucky: when I say I love video game music, people always look at me like I'm an alien :'(

One thing I've learned at my loss: never tune your guitar outside when you play inside... that was awful xD

Fuck 'em dude.
I tell people that's like the main shit I listen to other than like... Down tempo stuff.
I even go to sleep to video game music... And proud of it.

I'd love to do covers of game music.

I'm also proud of it, but I'm tired of arguing with closeminded people who always think your a geek or a nolife because of that -_-'

Anyway I've got a band but I think I'm gonna leave it soon, the drummer(and leader) is really getting on my nerves...

I agree with Arteriorrhexis, I always say i listen to video game music whenever someone asks me wat i listen two, now im in a band that hopes to make music for games one day, which is also my 1st band lol
