# of Views/Downloads

I think it would be nice if tab pages show the number of views it gets and the .gp5 or whatever file included shows number of downloads besides the link. This way we can know what is popular, where it stands, and if it was worth all that time tabbing.

Doesn't the star rating system already do that?

Well the thing is that I submitted some tabs a few years ago and they still have 0 rating so I'm interested whether people actually even viewed them or not.

Here's my view on the matter.

An example of why I am interested in tab views is the boss battle theme from Lufia 2 that I tabbed in October of 2008. I took Ashane's cover of the song and tabbed every instrument from scratch. I have 0 ratings right now. Calebelijah's tab of the song, which isn't Ashane's version but still pretty much the same just in different octaves, has 34 ratings. Of course I'm not saying he's a bad tabber. It just makes me curious whether my hard work was put to good use or not.

A flame war is not going to address CpxAzn's point.

Your work was to avail. You wrote it, you put it out there. A job accomplished. If you love what you do, don't stop doing it. Someone else will dig it.

You have to remember something Cpx Calebelijah has a massive youtube fan base of 11,582 people which he links all his tabs back to here of course he's going to have alot of ratings. That doesn't make your arrangement anything less then his. He just has more followers that will click his link and rate the tab 5 stars. Trust me Cpx your hard work pays off to someone rather it be to yourself or someone else.

I'd be interested in seeing views too. Only I wonder whether the site has kept track of views up until now--will all views start at 0 if you add this, Archard?

I know on Youtube, some people get as much as a rating for every 10 views, or more; other times you see thousands of views with like, 5 ratings. So I definitely don't think the rating system covers this information.

But then again, views or

But then again, views or downloads don't really matter all that much, as in, it's not too different from the star system. Just because you have a lot of views doesn't mean that it is a good tab, or that you have a lot of downloads.

And if it's any consolation to anyone, every tab I've tried out, whether it be simple or complex has been grade A material. Sounds just like the song, and is fun to play. The only thing I can suggest, since there's a lot of this talk about simple tabs being garbage, is to place the simple tabs into a Beginner's Section, It's not often you find a 1-2 string tab that is insanely hard to play... that way these people who seek complex playing can filter those out.

I second this enhancement request - I think this is good information, even if it doesn't 'prove' anything.

The only downside is if no one is viewing Cpx's tabs, he might stop making them!

Look at it this way: if you don't get many ratings, it's probably because people can't play your tabs, or aren't familiar with the source.

That doesn't mean they're bad. If you are just making them for other people to use them, then you may look into either or both of those features.

Looking at your tabs, the only ones I know (aside from the Ashane transcriptions) are the Persona, SFIV and Gilgamesh tabs. Of those I can only play the Persona one. You do great work, though.

We can definitely do page

We can definitely do page views. Although like auri postulated, no statistics have been kept up until this point, so all pages will start out at 0. It may or may not prove to be a good measure of a tab's popularity, but it will be interesting to see how we can use the statistics nonetheless.

I don't wanna do a file download counter though. That would require some specific changes to the file system that I don't want to do.

I think this has some permissions on it?

It's telling me I need to Login or Register, and I am logged in. For admins only, maybe?

I'm interested in the tab page views like I am in my youtube video views. I don't know what I'd do without youtube view count. Knowing how many views will let me know what is popular and what to stay away from. I tab songs to help people, so when I do, I would like to help as many people as I can. It's like some sort of feedback for me. It can let me set my priorities and time allocation for tabs.

And archard, that looks awesome.

I made the user-specific stat pages open only to mods since we're kind of in testing mode right now. I guess I'll open it up to all registered users.
