I can't speak for everyone else, but I sure dig it. Want to actually use this as BGM for a game... |

After listening to his album I have a much more clear idea of him. He's very trancy first of all, on purpose of course (the backgrounds should point this out straight out), though I found that it can be hard to keep interest in a lot of this songs due to the very long sections where he slowly transfers from one melody to another. His counterpoint is really rock solid since he always keeps his hand moving. The basslines being steady while he plays the melody. I like him, but I think he'll have better stuff in the future. I did enjoy his flatpicking briefly, was good stuff. I would really like to see him make a melody of the lower section in one of his future works. He has great flow overall though. Level 5 and Time being my favorite of his debut, the rest kinda fade into the background, literally. Driving music. |

I'm going to send him an email asking him to stop by the site and maybe make a post and hang out for a bit. But before I do, I'd like to put together a list of tabs that he might be interested in. Now, after watching a lot of his videos, it appears that we are mere mortals compared to this dude's playing ability, but nevertheless there are some moderately complex tabs on here. I think nate and surreal's tapping arrangements of Aquatic Ambiance and Stickerbrush Symphony would be good, as well as some of Kabuki's harder tabs like the Final Bowser Theme. He also does flatpicking, but I'm kind of unfamiliar with the more difficult flat-picked tabs on the site, seeing as I only do fingerstyle. Any suggestions?

I think we shouldnt press him too much - instead of getting him interested in our site we could drive him away. Sure we can show him some more complex tabs, but hey - we dont know if games are for him source of good music to play (like most of us) or just another source of inspiration - and if there will be sent any email this should be cleared/explained at the begginning. All in all I'm in - having someone like him here at gametabs would be very profitable for our skills/knowledge. |

I think there's a very good chance that he would be interested in the site. Think about it. He clearly has an interest in video game music, and this site is the utopia of video game music and guitar. I'm sure that alone would pique his interest if he hasn't heard of the site before. But also consider that, although he clearly has virtuoso skills, he is a relatively unknown artist right now, and it would be a great opportunity to 'advertise' himself and grow his fan base by popping in and saying hello. I think his target audience lines up closely with this community. Plus, check out his site, http://ewandobson.com/. This dude is hilarious, definitely not some full-of-himself artist that wouldn't give us the time of day. So, I will not press him too hard, but I feel like I have nothing to lose by contacting him.

Here is a exert from his bio. "The development of Ewan Dobson into the artist that he is today has been an eclectic journey to say the least. After humble beginnings with his first electric guitar playing heavy metal and hard rock music to the structured discipline of his classical training, Dobson has expanded his repertoire to include Bluegrass, Metal, Canadian folk, Techno, Trance, Video Game and Contemporary Fingerstyle music"

And if there's any doubt that he's into video game music... he has a cover of the tetris theme on his album (Korobeiniki).
