if you're trying to make your own tab, s'not a good idea to use a midi, but if you're just trying to learn a song, using a midi is similar to just using someone's tab |

Just wanted to mention this here as a source for midis of those tunes you may be trying to transcribe, www.vgmusic.com countless old tunes from all your favourite games. Hope this helps.
