Suggestions for books / cd contents

Putting to together a book and a cd for a contest I will be getting together in the future. Right now, I'm researching the music that will be in the book and the pieces to record for the cd and I would like people's input.

Think best of the best. You can suggest pieces I've already arranged that you think should be in the book, or you can suggest pieces you would like to see in the book. Also, for the cd you can suggest pieces I've recorded to be included, as well as pieces that I've arranged but haven't recorded to BE recorded and included, else you can suggest pieces you would like to see arranged and recorded.

I'm looking for the best of the best here, so let me know your absolute favorites, the must haves, spanning from the oldest to the newest systems. For the cd, remember I can only choose a limited number for an audio cd, so only suggest the ones you think MUST be on there.

Hope to hear some great suggestions. Back to work!

I think your best work is when you take a small minimalistic tune and go wild with it. Like DK in Love and your latest Mario 64 File Select tab. If you could perhaps take a crack at a arranging a few more in that spirit for the book, it'd be quite enjoyable and would certainly make the book "stand out" from your more straight forward arrangements.

As for the CD, is it going to be strictly solo guitar? Like, if the forum was up to it, couldn't we combine some recordings from everyone in the community and even do something new like a large guitar collab for the last spot on the CD.

Collaborating on a big song, like dancing mad, mario rpg's entire ending sequence, the MGS theme, or whatever.

Just my random thoughts on the matter.

These arrangements of yours stand out to me

  • Lilium (Elfen Lied)
  • Radical Dreamers (Chrono Cross)
  • Level 1 (Donkey Kong)
  • Birth of a God (Final Fantasy VII)
  • Besaid Island (Final Fantasy X)
  • Suteki da Ne Orchestral Version (Final Fantasy X) - would LOVE a recording of this
  • Dr. Wily's Stage (Mega Man VI)
  • Final Bowser Theme (Super Mario 64)
  • Shion - Past Memory (Xenosaga)
  • Underworld (Legend of Zelda)
  • File Select Screen (Super Mario 64)
  • Traverse Town (Kingdom Hearts)
  • 1,000 Words (Final Fantasy X-2)
  • The Dragon Spreads Its Wings (Final Fantasy V)
  • The Kingdom of San d'Oria (Final Fantasy XI)
  • Wind Crest - The Three Trails (Final Fantasy X-2)
  • Valentina (Super Mario RPG)
  • Circle of Eternity (KiRite) - might be considered a transcription but I still love it
  • You Were There (Ico)

I'm glad you're doing this Kabuki. I've always wanted a sheet music book full of your arrangements.

What's up K-Bear. Are you planning on selling these? If so, I would suggest including some tabs that you really love that you CAN'T find on this site. That bit of "supply and demand" will really add value to your project. You could also drum up business by making recordings of these new tabs and directing your viewers to your book for the tablature. Just my thoughts. Oh, by the way, once it's done, if you list it on E-bay, I'll be sure to buy a copy. Thanks.

All good suggestions. Now any ideas on pieces that I haven't arrangd that you'd love to see in? Think, "If I had to choose music that symbolized gaming music, what would it be?" Classics, like mario bros, zelda, etc.

It seems like most of the "classics" have been covered already, so I can't suggest any there. There's a scarcity of Tales of Symphonia tabs though, and its a relatively popular game. IMO, Motoi Sakuraba's music is usually hit or miss, but its consistently above par in ToS.

Beyond Good and Evil is another, but the music might be difficult to arrange.

Cid's theme from FF7... I know you love it, IMO it's a must. The more I listen to it the more I fall in love with it >.<

I know FF Advent Children is not a game.. but... "Cloud Smiles" on solo guitar, à la Kabuki, would definitely make me tear up.

Can't think of any more right now, must.. sleep.. z z z z

I second this notion. Its so perfect for classical I'm surprised you haven't done it already.

Loss of Me/Rose of May should make an appearance in the this book and cd, fantastic song and tab that I'd love to here you actually play. Also a fan of your Hero of Time - Wind Waker intro piece. It's a mix of the best of the best, classic game music and also sounds amazing as a standalone piece.
That's my input for now at least.
