Does anyone here have a Google Wave account?

I just got one today, and I'm interested in using it to collaborate on music.

Sorry, I don't have any invites at this point. Let's be e-friends, yes? Shoot me a PM or drop your Google contact info here if interested, thanks!

From what I gather its nothing but a google-myspace account. If thats the case then I dont think I want to be apart of Google Wave but Ill have to try it first and see what it has to offer.

If you ever used ICQ, it's like ICQ for a new generation. It's messaging that works when both parties are online (real-time, IM-like) or when one is offline (like e-mail, private message.)

The 'message' itself is composed of little 'blips' which can be added, edited, replied to. You can embed fancy Web 2.0 doo-hickeys, but not too many are built yet.

Archard and I just played a game of Sudoku inside of our 'Wave', which was pretty rad.

Well 'blips' are what they call them, it could be 'sprockets' for all it matters.

The 'wave' is like the 'thread', and each 'blip' is like a 'post' or 'reply'.

I can add a new blip (post) at the end of the wave, or higher up in response to something earlier.

If my blip is (for example) my latest tab, you can edit my blip and I will be notified that the wave has changed, and I can come see your corrections.

You don't have to make a whole new post with 90% of it being identical, and no one has to worry about accidentally playing/copying the incorrect tab because it's been replaced.

The history of the 'wave' is saved, too. So you can play back (in chronological order) the changes that have been made since it was created, or since you last viewed it.

It's a mix between a forum, e-mail/IM and a shared document. There's definitely a social network aspect, but it's not really like MySpace or Facebook in any meaningful way.

BooDoo's description is pretty good. It seems that Google is attempting to bring together many aspects of online social networking, including myspace/facebook functionality, under one umbrella. They're trying to take over my internets.

I truly wish there was some super advanced completely lag free super server out there that could enable stuff like real time streaming between several people. Real time collabs and whatnot.

Ah, the laws of physics kind of preclude that, though it'd be possible over short-to-medium distances if we had more efficient networks (no switching etc). But there are projects like Ninjam which delay by a musically useful amount (like, say, four bars at 120 bpm, so you can improvise over the same progression). Though, I found Ninjam frustrating.
