Sheets to Tabs

Hello, fellows. So, I found this site that has some awesome guitar duet arrangements (they're oficial, if I'm not mistaken), and I'd love to play them with a buddy of mine.

But we're not very good with sheets. I mean, I could pass it to Guitar Pro, note by note, but is there an easier way?

Or, by any chance, would you guys know where can I get these arrangements in tab form?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there's an easy way of converting the musescore file to a tab.

You can find a pdf of that official guitar book pretty easily... Just search for "Chrono Cross Guitar Arrangement" or go here http://bmpdm.jimdo.com/partituras/

Hi ! Indeed these arrangments sounds good ^^ , here's how u have to do

METHOD 1 :

1) download the mxl file u want convert,
for example : http://static.musescore.com/160530/11ca0b5cf2/score.mxl

2) Open (load) the .mxl file from a arranger sofware : Musescore (freeware), Finale, Sibelius, etc...

3) transpose -> by interval -> 1 perfect octave UP

4) Save it to XML format

5) import it from Guitar Pro

--------------

METHOD 2 :

1) import directly the .mid file from Guitar Pro
http://static.musescore.com/160530/11ca0b5cf2/score.mid

--------------

Note : I obtain usually best result with method 1

There is also another way

There is also another way around it that is fairly easy. MXL is just the compressed form of an XML file. Try this:

1. Change the file extension from .mxl to .zip
2. Unzip the file
3. Generally there will be an .xml file and a folder containing container.xml. Don't choose container, choose the other one and extract it wherever.
4. Fire up Guitarpro and choose import->xml file

It should import fine with the tabs.

Wow this is cunning !! Thanks for the info

"It should import fine with the tabs"
Agree ! It should.. theorically speaking ! But Nope it doesn't, GP eats bass notes... I just don't know why ??? It's why I suggested a transposing (+12 semi-tone) to solve this problem (see METHOD 1).

By the way the version 2.0 Release Candidate (RC) of Musescore will be available for Windows and Mac March 12th and
Final MuseScore 2.0 release for all platforms March 24th
So enjoy it ^^

My best guess is that whatever you're trying to import is in an alternate tuning...probably Drop D, which those Chrono guitar arrangements use a lot. When Guitar Pro imports the file, it imports it on to a guitar tuned for standard tuning, meaning any bass notes that are lower than an E will show up as rests, is that what's happening to you?

Unfortunately, there's no way that I've found to force GP to import in a specific tuning. What you CAN do is after it's imported, change the guitar tuning to whatever it's supposed to be, GP will auto-adjust the tab. Unfortunately, this means you would have to input the low notes that didn't import over yourself, which defeats the purpose I suppose, unless it's not too many. Which piece are you referring to specifically?

just low ^^ but Guitar Pro dislike that xml files :(
Hopefully Muse score is there to save the day :D

What version of GP are you

What version of GP are you using? I opened that piece and it works fine...

Oh ! Well GP version 5.2

Oh ! Well I got GP version 5.2 (2007) here.
After checking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MusicXML) this can be the source of my troubles because this version doesn't support MusicXML 3.0 (2011) and even about ver. 2.0 (2007) support, I have doubts.
I guess you have GP 6 (2010) supporting at least MusicXML ver. 2.0 (maybe 3.0 too), then the mystery is solved :)
Anyway I keep my old Guitar Pro 5, I'm attached to it ^^

Kabuki I'm pretty sure you have an obsession with drop D, at least half of your tabs are in it... not that I'm complaining, most of those arrangements are pretty awesome.

Ahhhh, I see what's happening. The xml file writes the notation properly for guitar, because guitars sound an octave lower than they are written on sheet music. Accurate guitar sheet music notates this by having the treble clef with the octave symbol under it. I opened it up in GP 5.2 and it looks like it's writing the notes out without taking this into account; literally writing them out at the pitch it's played at. Looking over the xml file in wordpad, the octave change is notated properly, it seems that GP5.2 simply cannot register it and display it properly. I even attempted to alter it to different configurations with no effect. GP6 handles it fine, so I guess your workaround is the only way to do it. Bummer.
