BOSS BATTLE !

Rules:
- The song MUST be a song played during a boss battle, but it can be from ANY GAME, a race song works if it's against a boss, a stage song works if the music does NOT change during the boss battle (Hello Mega Man)

- You can enter with as many songs as you wish, no limits ! but it MUST be a song you did in 2015, you have ONE joker to use a song from 2014.

- Anyone can enter, you are a noob at guitar ? No problem ! You only do remixes and do not play real instrument ? You can enter ! You wanna do a rap freestyle ? You can enter !

- ONE COVER BY SONG!!! Tell me the song you plan to cover and i'll make a LIST on the EVENT PAGE. You can a song on your own or ask for a COLLAB if you can't or do not want to do it alone. Use the community factor, make featurings ! Someone is already working on the song you wanna do ? ASK HIM TO JOIN ! work together émoticône smile

As said earlier, don't just use the the normalizing, because that cuts everything above the setting^^ (You might use this, if there are enormous peaks within the track)

As you use Cubase, there is something called Maximizer (or mastering maxmizer) Here is a short view how to find and use the DAW-internal one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff1aLMgFBAY
(I've never used that one, but it's working the same way)

Depending on the original file and it's mix, you can adjust each track.

The visualization meters:
Left the input: This one shouldn't get into the red area (clipping). Normally the fader for the track isn't touched anymore, the mix is the mix.

Right the final output.

And the one in the middle is telling you, how much something is compressed (not cut) :) Don't overdo it here and rise it up to the moon, because then it'll be a mess ^__^ Slightly a bit red from time to time is okay, but if the bar is going into the deepest depths or is active veeery long or often, it's time to reduce. (yap, this is not a competition, how loud we can make it, we just want to harmonize^^)

When you load all Album-tracks, you can give each one a maximizer into the insert-effect and adjust it.

At least, this is how I did it with the FF7TA. I took a loudness-reference and compared the tracks to each other and adjusted and compared and adjusted...from the beginning to the end and then pell-mell the ending with the beginning and the middle etc... (with periodic breaks in between, because the ears have to rest from this)

If someone knows a better way, please tell!!! xD

yeah. i'd say it would be silly to go to another FF game so quickly. there are so many good genres or games to approach. i like the racing game idea. and mega man is good, too. i'd really really like to see a time where we discourage duplicate tracks. i know it's then scramble to see who gets to wily's theme from mega-man 2 or big blue first, but i think it challenges people to look beyond the obvious tracks and explore the other great music in a series. so far it seems like people tend to branch out a bit already, which is encouraging. i just think it would be cool to do a mega-man album where no duplicates exist and it is arranged by game. of course that could also make people less likely to be involved if they cant do the music they want, so it's sort of a tricky situation.

Sorry I didn't participate in this LoZ album. I probably could have recorded something but I forgot :( haha
Though if I can suggest a theme for the next album, I'd suggest a SNES themed one. That way it's open to many genres as well as series :D

for the mix i listened to the whole album (3CD!) and only 2 songs were really lower than the average so no need for a real harmonization. Some songs are louder than others but it's okay !
Does someone knows how to "tag" a logo to a song?
for example i got songs from Lukaner and Haawke but their own logo are tagged to the mp3 file.
I'd like to do the same with the cover art of the album, do you know how to do it?

It was awesome to be a part of the project, and it's so good to see it finished! I'll try to make my entry a bit better next time though. XD

Anyway, as far as themes go, I think we could do some awesome work with more intense, climatic pieces. I'd also like to throw Pokemon into the mix as a game choice because... well, Pokemon. XD

If we're looking at games, any from the Kingdom Hearts series, Shin megami tensei series (Persona 4 maybe). Or for themes I really like the idea for an Indie games theme and I know the site is called "gametabs" but there seems to be a bit of an anime interest here, perhaps an anime theme if there's any interest?

Also @hashel would it be possible to get a copy of the album artwork? I'd like to add an annotation link on my next cover to the album. I'm not sure if it'll get that many clicks from my videos because I don't get too many views but hopefully it'll at least be a small contribution :)

I may be a bit biased on this one, but the Link's Awakening songs are my favorite.

Cleseph, your Mabe Village is my favorite track on the album. Your acoustic sound is so good. I'd be interested in hearing about your recording method, including mic placement and such.

Brody, I really like your Sword Search as well, and I'm glad that we had pretty different takes on the song. Though, you totally wimped out and didn't play the hard part of the song!

Medley are okay and welcome.
But there must not have 2 "One Winged Angel" covers on the album.
Because in the Zelda album there were 4 version of Zelda's Lullaby, which is way too much, so from now, no multiple versions anymore.
And i think it can make people wanna collab more.

Well if everyone does the tracks they should do... It's already a 2CD album !
Some of those tracks can be really long (working on a 7 minutes arrangement right now).
Thought that one would be smaller than the Zelda Album (please someone make a news on gametabs about it :D) but looks like it's going to be big too !
Some new people joined, it's really cheering to see people interested in those little projects ^^
And i haven't done the "Join us" video for youtube with the rules ^^
I hope tomorrow !
Btw the Zelda album is at 381 downloads in one week, it's an amazing start !

I'm working on the track that plays when fighting Sarevok in Baldur's Gate, which interestingly is not "The Last Battle" as listed on the few BG soundtrack youtube videos. Instead it seems to be an alternate version of the main theme.

Hmm we should try and figure out a max volume level for all the covers we are doing, I noticed that the volume levels were kinda all over the place for the previous album. This would also make the mixing process go a bit smoother if multiple people are handling it again.

Hashel didn't find anyone who wanted to do the album-mastering-maximizing.
I would have done that again, but there wasn't enough free time and no one else did it, so it just was released.

(I'd also not call it albums, those are more like compilations^^)

The mix is the mix, independent, separate. The loudness-adjustment is the final step and you don't really have to care about it in the mix.

Why not, but how should we proceed ? Set a maximum and minimum volume of Db ?

As mentioned multiple times ahead, the db don't say anything about the (felt) loudness and a set max/min would change nothing :D
The songs can only be homogenized in the final step, anything else is useless, it's too much depending on each song and the mix itself.
Everyone makes it's final mix and maybe will master it except the maximizing-step, that must be done centralized, only then there's a chance to adjust all to a similar level in an acceptable amount of time :P (otherwise everyone's doing it by themselves and then we compare and repeat...and repeat...and repeat, until everyone's happy with it... xD)

Hah yeah I wasn't following to close to the previous "compilations" progression, well provided work remains on the slower side of things I can help with the volume adjustments.
