Ash is the only one who can answer, but he's not around very much, and the contact info I had for him doesn't work anymore.

So I dunno. Make sure you back up any of your own tabs you want to hang on to, just in case!

Should probably update that copyright at the bottom of the page, too. It's now two years behind :P

Wondered if it's a server issue or maybe traffic overload because of the spam bots. In case a server switch would resolve these issues I would totally donate some money to help make it happen.

The bot has deleted 33952 spams so far, so there's been quite a bit. (And remember there are occasionally a few the bot doesn't delete, so the real number is slightly higher.)

Like hashel said, you'll find most songs on this site. But you can also try these:

From what I've seen this site has pretty accurate tabs
http://www.videogamejam.com/

UG has a larger selection, but it's not organized that well for VGM, just use the search bar. The quality on that site can be questionable, but most should be fine; it's always bothered me how they don't post text versions of the tab if it was made with guitarpro or powertab.

A small amount of VGM here mixed with some anime music

I do recall a conversation I had with Ash when he mentioned the physical server was residing in a Data Center somewhere that host's web services. So it depends if this is just one of many Websites being hosted on a server or if it has a dedicated box/switch.

^ Take with a grain of salt this was a while ago.

But as Ennea said if the site needs help I wouldn't helping out either, I am a Data Center technician for a bunch of Oil and Gas companies and we toss out lots of fairly new and perfectly good gear.

Every once in a while in the gametabs group on facebook someone will mention that the site is down and we'll get a response from Ash there. Other times someone will update that it's back up and running with no word at all. Didn't happen this time around though. Actually I didn't even know it was down at all. :)

For anyone who wants a tab while the site is down, you should try searching the word Gametabs with a song title on google. Then click the green arrow next to the link URL and choose Cached for a snapshot of the page.

Another option is to use this link

http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.gametabs.net

This will direct you to an archived version of the site. Just pick the most recent archive date and navigate the site like normal. Some links might not work, but you should be able to find most content on the site.

An alternate way of using the archive is this link with the game title you are looking for

http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.gametabs.net/chrono-trigger/*
http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.gametabs.net/legend-zelda-oc...

Dear humans, Apologies. Life

Dear humans,
Apologies. Life has been manic recently. I'll try to explain a little bit about what's been going on. The server gets absolutely hammered with many spambots constantly trying to create accounts and get through captchas etc. This creates a good amount of load on the server and it creates a lot of logs through various pieces of software. These logs on occasion have filled up the disk, causing problems. I've been updating some software recently which has changed some configurations which means that the level of logging is sometimes accidentally changed. Sometimes various bits of software just crash. Every time it goes down, it's something slightly different to the time before. When I have time, sometimes I put in a proper fix so that particular thing won't happen again but often I'm just too tired/busy/lazy and end up just smacking the server into good enough shape that it'll start working again. I need to get more disciplined at stabilizing this thing and I apologize for that :(

It's an old Ignite beanie. I just found an expired ebay auction with one that says it's a Peru. But the current Ignite Perus look nothing like that.

Well, isnt there a way to prevent the spambots from targetting gametabs in the first place ? Deleting the countless threads has been working out more or less but it clearly puts a lot of stress onto the server.

No that I know of. We already have two levels of software to help deal with the actual spam but I don't know what I can do to block them from being able to physically communicate with the server. There are thousands of them and their IPs change all the time. Probably botnets. There are plugins that block them from performing functions on the site but I don't know if you there is a way to dynamically alter firewall rules based on a up to date IP blacklist. Maybe that's worth looking into. Ideas, Auri?
