Dwelling of Duels CAPSLOCK THREAD

Hey, everyone! You have until January, 20th, 2015, 10:00 AM EST to submit video game covers/arrangements for Dwelling of Duels MAGFest month!

That means you've got more than an entire month to work on a song.

What's Dwelling of Duels?

Dwelling of Duels is a monthly VGM covers competition. Competitors submit redone versions of game music and the entries are voted upon by the community. Entries must comply with these rules:
• The song must follow the current month's theme;
• The song must be previously unreleased;
• The song must not be shorter than 2 minutes;
• The main instrument must by played live.

So what's this month's theme?

It's a Free Month with a twist: your song should be made with a dance in mind. Whether it's club techno, lindy hop or baroque dance, the entry has to make people at the listening party get up from their seats and move their bodies in a beautiful way.

You can do just about any song from any game.

See the official site or The Shizz forums for more information. I'm just spreading the word in any case anyone here is interested :-)

Thanks for the news ! It's

I haven't been keeping up with DoD the last couple years, but it'd be cool to see a Hashel entry :-D

Might be interesting indeed, if i put some effort (i mean, more than i usually do xD) i'll maybe won't finish last ^^
Gotta look in my "songs to cover" list to find one that fits the theme... Or just take any song and turn it into... POLKAAAA (à la Weird Al).

"song must be previously unreleased" just refers to a specific cover, right? not source material?

And then I realized that the chord progression from Chrono Cross's Another World is the same progression as the chorus from Peace of Mind by Boston, and life was never quite the same.

Well if you make a song for

Well if you make a song for the contest, you should let NOBODY hear it before the great "listening party" ^^
People just must not know who did the cover when they rate it, to stay objective.

Right, just don't publicly post your cover anywhere or tell other entrants that you're working on it.

Good job everyone on not entering! I, too, didn't enter! We Gametabsians are good at not entering DoD.

Here's the songs from people who actually did enter, including our friend JamesRonald a.k.a. Epic G. Music:

The Rondo of Blood one is the best DoD I've ever heard with lyrics.

Now that I've typed a bunch of dots, on to this month!

This month's theme is: BREVITY

Basically a free month, but your song has to be under 1 minute long (instead of the usual 2 minute minimum). Due Feb 23rd!

P.S. Sorry about the spam deletion bot being down for an hour, I was upgrading my server. (It wasn't vulnerable to GHOST, but I figured it was a good time to update anyway. Make sure you're not vulnerable, it's a real doozy!)

Yay us! It seems like most people who post on the recording section of this site don't really go on the forums much, or at least don't comment. Maybe some of them would be interested, but some of our more active forum members, like those who do tune contests don't all seem to have recording equipment to meet the DoD live instrument requirement.

Damn, that Rondo of Blood song is slick. Kind of surprised it didn't win, but it's always hard to compete with Prince uf Darkness.

And Caravan Bowser just put a huge grin on my face the whole way through; everything XPRTNovice touches is just a ton of fun and well produced.

The rest of the entries are a nice mix of styles, rather than the typical rock/metal stuff, as great as those are.
