Is it just me or does gametabs not seem to have any kind of logo or banner? :O Like something that shows at the top of the webpage, it feels like something is missing there!

Why don't we call up the graphic designers in here (which I know there are at least a few, including me), let them design one, or a few, and put up a poll to decide which one will be used?

Soo, what do you all think, does sounds like a good idea?

(Graphic designer is a big word, I mean anyone who has experience with that kind of stuff)

im no graphic designer, all ive done from that category was a graphic designing class i took back in middle school. Im just putting up my opinion on your idea and i think its great and something that should be given some time to. But as im writing this i just noticed that gametabs does have a logo and its on the top left corner on the screen but it would be cool to have an improvment of it since it seems a bit generic.

Well I was more thinking of something that includes the actual words "gametabs", "gametabs.com" or something alike. I like that picture/logo at the top though, but I think there should be something next to it with the words of the website itself. To me it feels like something's missing up there :P

But that's just my opinion heh.

i guess you could just simply put the website name on the printer/console thing. It kinda looks like an snes just without the controler ports and such.

Sincr I'm going on holdiay, and am too lazy to do it before then, here's my idea... which can be intergated on to anyones.

Put a piece of tablature ontot he text... like inside the outline, faintly bump mapped. And choose a piece people will recgonise... if the notice it ;)

It look nice, but I think that mushroom should be a bit bigger (in that way it could be moved a liitle lower - if bigger mushroom would be too little 'dot-like') :]

That's what I mean:

Hm I noticed a link in the shoutbox earlier which had like, a blue banner at the top saying Gametabs, and under that 'video game tablature'. Maybe we could implement that too? Like in small letters to the bottom right of Gametabs.net. Just an idea!

I'm not having a dig at you Spider... ^^

But this lettering is more simple and cleaner? It's not changed too much - keeping the theme. And the logo, if you call the NES the logo is something we talked about on the chat - the current NES has sheet music coming out of it and this being a tab site... well I tried to have a go at it, several designs..but since it's a really small area, there's not much that can be done. But I also realized that the NES in the current picture is technically wrong(!), the stripe doesn't go across it like that.

The background is recreated with a slight change on the fading. I had a go at the lettering too, because I found a nicer font, aligned it in line with the things below (Latest tabs, latest forum posts ect). These thing's most people won't think of but it's important to get positing right. Auri (bless her) (she's great at her music) did the font and and I know she said she's not a designer/artist. I spent 3 years at Art College but dropped out because I got into music more and I love my dog :)

I fully agree about align -

I fully agree about align - thanks to that layout would like even better. I'm not sure about tab part - right this site is more about tab than sheet music, but honestly - this deosnt bother me. Actually I have nothing against putting there tabs instead of notes, but you should make it bigger than your current proposition - now it looks more like text than tabs (characters are so small!) - try make those tabs a bit bigger (like current notes) so anyone who looks at logo could notice that this is really tab. And last thing that suits for me more in current logo - there is more contrast (maybe because of outline?) - it makes logo look clean (this is just my opinion).

Cool.

This is like with any design proposition, whatever your experience, whatever you're ideas, it really comes down to what the client wants. Client in this case is Archard, so really, instead of mucking about when it could be a waste of time :) , I'll just wait till he visits and gives word on it. I agree if the tab was bigger (it does just look like text, but definitely not sheet music) it would have more uniqueness..

Have to agree - that's what I meant by calling current logo 'simple'. Too much details are breaking the 'Logo' concept - graphic sign that sould be easy to understand and remember, the more simple the better.

NESs are quite simple looking though, and that's a vector image like the current one.

Yeah, it's Archard's site, and the decision is up to him--but that doesn't mean no one should give any input.

What I was trying to say with the link is yours is an actual NES, and it looks like someone removed the internals, inserted some printer guts, and is printing out something too small to see. (Also, the sheet needs a left margin.) The original logo is a slightly genericized game console, deliberately less photorealistic, outputting a representation of music. It represents game music.

IOW yours is more like a picture than a logo.

As for the text, that's a matter of aesthetics. I have no opinion on the text

I really like that better then the one now looks real instead of cartoonish good job on that one LT. Maybe put in a few lines of tab on the sheet that would be even better.

It was actually some real tab coming out of the NES there, taken from one of the top tabbers on the site. Hehe. I think they're both distinctive, where else can you see a picture of a NES printer..

Suppose the same image could be cartoonised* and the text bigger. Would you like that archard? I wouldn't mind the current NES myself, if only the stripe was going the right way.
