I'm getting tired of seeing the same damn stuff in every shooter that comes out. Knifing raptors in the face, while not necessarily revolutionary, was still pretty fun!

The original Paper Mario. TTYD got the respect it deserved, but most people didn't even play the first.

Got to admit one hack of game ^_^ best from the series XD
But I don't think it's badly underrated, though... but a bit more attention would have done the game justice

Max Payne everyone gave it kind of a dirty look but the story was pretty good and bullet time was pretty awesome the first few times....

Gitaroo Man you don't hear enough about this game. Simple but totally rocked and i will never forget the Legendary Theme!

Mischief Makers What's better than grabbing a missile out of mid-air, SHAKING it till it gets bigger and throwing it at your opponent?

I've played Max Payne, but wasn't blown away by the game either XD
But I do have to agree bullet time was pretty awesome, but gets less interesting over time...

Try the second one. It wasn't all that popular, but it's great enough that I still break it out at least once a year and play through it. Graphics are much improved over 1 and they've added...*dramatic pause*...RAGDOLL PHYSICS! It's worth playing if only to see the funny death poses.

the legacy of kain series had a pretty kick ass story line, plus the second game in the series (soul reaver) was the first game to have music that changed on a situation based system instead of just changing whenever you changed areas or got in to a boss fight

yes yes yes the soul reaver games are gems I love them all good story, beautiful graphics, voice acting was flawless. Ima have to throw out Secret of Evermore for most underrated btw the music is awsome as well. To me it was better then Secret of Mana but ill probably get flamed for saying that honestly Secret of Mana didnt appeal to me at all I thought it was horrible. DuesEX for PC that game had some of the best voice acting i heard at the time on PC not to many people got into it sadly.

Dragon Force is a real-time strategy and tactics video game from Sega created for the Sega Saturn. It was created in Japan and translated for U.S. release by Working Designs in 1996. A sequel, never translated, was released for the Saturn in Japan in 1998. The first title was re-released for the PlayStation 2 as part of the Sega Ages series.

This game is my favorite ^ ^ It's Romance of the Three Kingdoms + Anime. The only reason I bought a Sega Saturn was to own this game. Sadly, Working Designs is no longer around. They remade it on PS2 as part of the Sega Ages series but because it's so underrated...it'll never have a U.S. release.

its not a great graphic game, but if you wanna a game with story, i recommend that one!
its from playstation 1, if you are from the new generation of games, you can play the new ones, but the suikoden 2 are a special game.^^

They may not all be as underrated as you asked for, but these games deserved a whole lot more attention than they got. If you are a Metal Gear fan and you've never played Snatcher, then your not THAT big of a MGS fan now are you?

suikoden 2 has some of the best graphics ever for psx in the opening title! at least I think so anyway.

I don't know if I would consider Suikoden 2 underrated. It has many sequels so I think it got some well deserved attention but to be honest...none of the sequels compares to Suikoden 1 and 2. : /

Got another one! Saw the comments about Suikoden II and realized Suikoden V is pretty underrated as well. 3 was a step away from everything I loved about 2, but 5 goes back to the old school way they did things in 1 and 2. Great music, great gameplay, and a great story with plenty of twists. The biggest change I enjoyed was the fact that you're not a scrappy rebel force fighting the big, powerful empire this time around, you're the exiled prince trying to retake your throne.

Must bring this game to light (:D) "Heart of Darkness". I has a great story and amazing animations for that old game.
I wish I hadn't lost it... Still remember happy instant death incidents...

I highly recommend playing the Ace Combat series. If you have a PS2, I INSIST you buy Ace Combat 4, 5 and 0. Since you have a 360, I think you should get Ace Combat 6.

As for the games themselves...

It's an arcade-style flight game. You shoot down planes and sometimes tanks. Simple as that.

BUT, you're under constant guidance of awesome music, an AMAZING storyline and stunning visuals for a PS2 (or 360) game.

Okay, this game isn't really underrated, in fact most reviews are quite positive. I just think that too few people have ever played or at least heard of the game. Go play it, it's Zelda for your PSone!

I recommend the GC version, if only because of my resident nintendo fanboyishness!

The original Oddworld games (Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus) deserve more attention. They were pretty much perfect. "Munch" for the XBox was alright, but not quite as great. "Stranger's Wrath", whilst very different, was also very, very good, and much better than "Munch".

Here is my obligatory post promoting Crystalis. Skip the GameBoy Color version and go straight back to the NES. Great soundtrack and art style. Fun Zelda-style gameplay, good boss fights, with well done RPG-like mechanics (xp, levels, etc). If I were going to be honest, it's probably my favorite game from that generation. And I only played it through a random fluke. Mom stopped at a game store on the way home from work one day, read the back of the box and figured I'd like it. Yeah. She nailed that one. :)

Also, let the flames begin: Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I can happily recommend this because every time people bash it they make it blatantly obvious that they are trying to judge it like an official member of the series. Yes, it's 'Final Fantasy Lite'. But that doesn't change the fact that it's just a fun little adventure with likable characters, a story you can follow (unlike *some* FFs) and a decent soundtrack. Just play it and don't spend the whole time comparing it.

Turok was really solid, but for a different system (older one, forget). I would say an underated game would have to be Heroes of Might and Magic for PC...game offered a lot of replay value.

I have always loved Bubsy 1 and 2 for the Super Nes.
Also, Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse was good too. The music for the forest level was really great. Coincidentally, if you muted the game, it went really well with the music of Captain Beefheart.
