You should probably start off with a diatonic 10 hole in the key of C. Harmonica is kind of difficult to play at first, especially single notes.

hslesperance is right, that is a good one for newbies. I played the harmonica for a week or so but stopped for some reason. The harmonica is compact, yet very beautiful instrument, that I can only recommend!

Yah the diatonic 10 hole C. And get a cheap one, in case you decide to give up or become uninterested - better to have not spent the money. I may not be 100% right on this, but I don't think you need a quality harmonica to learn on.

I really wanna try playing harmonica. It just seems like such a fun, soulful instrument to play. I don't know the first thing about harmonicas though, so I thought I would see if anyone here plays. So can anyone offer me some recommendations on what kind of harmonica to get?
