I was searching on google for a certain midi, and gametabs came up in the search results with a tab for the song I was looking for. I didn't know how to read tabs then, but I caught on pretty quickly. I started coming on more and more frequently to try out all the tabs. I was anonymous for a few weeks, but I figured I might as well sign up, since I came on so much, and here I am.

how about you?

I started transcribing songs for fun as part of my daily practice, and I was posting them to my Livejournal. But, er, very few people who read my LJ care about such things, so I felt a little silly! So I searched on Google and I found this place, and submitted my tabs, and I've been very happy since then ^-^

I like the thought that other people get some use out of the tabs I make as part of my daily practice. My tabs aren't terribly popular (maybe because they're mostly for bass?) but even so, it's a good feeling ^-^

A friend showed me his version of Aeris's theme on the guitar. I fell in love with the instrument and bought one myself. Then when I realized I was yet a n00b and couldn't play his tab, I decided to look for an easier version and found my way here.

I don't remember exactly. I remember stumbling on it. And either Kabuki told me about it, or I told Kabuki. Back at that time Kabuki and I had played with the idea of starting a site putting all of our stuff together. But neither of us had the time or the resources. Thankfully for me Archard came into the view and filled in what we couldn't do.

I got here by typing in specific songs in google. I actually got here looking for Gerudo Valley tabs. I started playing guitar more for video game songs than "real" songs so I signed up right away as soon as I found this site. It's an amazing site and I come, albeit don't post, often.

I was searching for a song that I always loved from Breath of Fire 3, and my google search lead to about 3 different sites. This one was the cleaned, most well organized and most tab abundant site of the bunch. I didn't find the tab I was looking for, but I found loads of other great tabs. I've since tabbed that song myself and discovered that tabbing songs is great for developing ones ear for music. I've started about 30 tabs which I hope to be posting with accompanying videos in the next month or two (once I get a new camera). I have to say that this site has been the single biggest contributor to my development as a guitarist. Thanks Archard.

I liked the site from the start so I registered.

I had made some video game tabs about three years ago and was thinking of starting my own website. I decided to look around the web to see if there were any websites like the one I was going to make, and naturally I came across gametabs. I had thought so much about my website and was so bent on making it, it didn't even occur to me to just have Archard put my tabs on his site. It occurred to me that I could do that soon after I made my website, but I had already made it and it didn't feel right to just trash it, I wanted to see what I could do with it. After about a year, I wanted a change and asked Archard if he would put my tabs on his site, and that's when I joined.

Are you asking someone in particular?

I think a lot of people use a program called Guitar Pro. Other people like me use a text editor. Just make sure if you do it in Word that you use a fixed-width font like Courier, and that you don't make it too wide (I do 80 columns, I hope that's considered normal).

Some people here use Guitar Pro or Power Tab. However, I doubt anyone is using Word since the simple Editor is good enough for the creation of tabs.

with you I meant anyone who feel like answering.

just wanted to ask, 'cause i had to upload the tab several times before it looked perfect. The uploaded sample looked different from how i typed it.

edit:

ah, alright. I used Word because that's the program I usually use when writing. would a simpler text program be better?

Use a text editor like Notepad or vi or something, and save it as a text file. Then it should upload fine. I don't recommend Word--make sure you use a fixed width font and it should be okay though.

The only problem I can think of with txt is, you might have problems if you're not on Windows, due to line ending issues. Are you on Windows? What problem did you have?

I use a mac too. For some reason the site wants DOS format text files instead.

If you're comfortable with Terminal.app, you can convert a .txt file to DOS format line endings by doing this:

    perl -pi -e 's/\n/\r\n/' filename.txt

You type it up on "Word" or "notepad", and then upload that to the site. There are instructions on this site.

Don't use Word to make tabs. The formatting almost always gets messed up when you use that program. Use a plain text editor like Notepad instead.

I hate using notepad when I want to print. Sometimes tabs will get cut off this is where Word comes in. I paste the tabs and select all change the font to
"Lucida Console" the notpad font btw) and now you can space it out so nothing will get cut off, as far as printing is concerned anyway.
