you can't make that sound with just a plain acoustiic guitar, but you probably already knew that. you should probably plug an electric guitar into an amp and change the amp settings to get that sound. I wouldn't know how though, I don't use electric guitars. |

Most electric guitars have 2 or 3 pickups. Usually there is a switch to select which one you're using. The neck pickup is the one near the neck, and the bridge pickup is the one near the bridge. If your guitar has three, then the one in the middle is the middle pickup :-) If your guitar is acoustic and doesn't have pickups, I don't know how to get that sound. Mine is an Epiphone Les Paul, and on that one "rhythm" is the neck pickup, and "treble" is the bridge pickup. You can also try changing the sound by changing where you pick! You get a more mellow jazzy sound the closer you pick to the center of the (sounding length of the) string, and a brighter sound toward the ends of the string.

yeah, what a dumb question sorry. I realized last night what you meant by neck pickup. At first I thought you were talking about a pickup on the neck of the guitar, that's why I was confused, sorry. But yeah, I've been playing it and its not perfect, but it's pretty close. Is there anything else I could do? Like tape echo or phaser that will get me closer to the sound the song has? I have a fender squier and a Spider III 15 watt if that helps any. |

Neck pickup, a small bit of delay and a very small amount of chorus (just barely on)... you could substitute for some reverb. You need to make sure you got very little bite by turning tone nob down and use a clean channel. I managed to get this sound with my tube amp and some pedals... this song is very good to have playing in the background. For what its worth, I believe the pick up used on the guitar in the song is a hollow-body like a Gibson ES. That tone is awesome Btw... thank you for asking... I added it to my settings and I will make use of it. EDIT: I double read your post to check and see if I missed something. Im not sure the spider 3 you are using has the depth of sound you are looking for they are just a little tinny, but who knows maybe you can make it work - in any case remember pick the strings around the last fret of the guitar so you get a very smooth sound (on that fender squire it would probably 20-22 fret areas) Also, I would like to know: Are you using a Squire Telecaster or a Strat? I have heard no matter what you do it seems the telecaster has this icepick bite and this would probably a hard sound to emulate. Anyways good luck to you.

I have a strat. And why are flatwoods bad on squiers? I don't have much experience with strings so I'm not really sure of the differences. |

I want to try to replicate the sounds this guy gets in this song.

Specifically the intro. What effects are being used to get that really mellow sound?
