Are you serious here? Comparing games in different styles is pointless, sure we could compare metal slug to contra, or super mario bros to sonic the hedgehog, or maybe even soul calibur to mortal kombat, but hell FF isnt like zelda. Both are predictable... final fantasy you ALWAYS get jailed some point in the games, a character typically has a psychological struggle, and they somehow manage to defeat a huge power... and zelda, dont get me started how repeating they are, basicly the only difference between zeldas is graphic improvements and a slight change in powers by aid of morphing or masks, you still have a generally vauge story, childish characters, and over all feeling it was made by fisher price lol. That said, im not hating on either series as i find myself playing them when the new one comes out (always! lol). Its just neither can topple the other, both have some interesting music and both have put out a less than perfect standard the series themselfs have created. such has FFVII and ocarina of time always mentioned by uncounted people as the bar setters or closest to perfection, the rest feel less somehow. If you mean musicly, i find both series inspiring, but my vote's on uematsu's work, shame he stopped working exclusive to square and working with FF. LOL long paragraph but eh I don't care

I somewhat agree with Jak. You can't really compare them, because they're completely different games...most people will probably end up siding with a genre rather than either series. I mostly enjoyed the FF games for the story element (like reading a book...with limit breaks), and I mostly enjoyed the Zelda games for the puzzle solving element mixed with fairly decent combat mechanics (it was just fun to play for me). |

the only LOZ game I liked was Ocarina of Time That and the gameboy four swords... along with the other one, I forget Majora's Mask - Wind Waker - Twilight Princess - NES ones or SNES ones I don't know, I'm not that old :p But yeah, Ocarina was the only one I really put time in Final Fantasy; I've played: 4-7-8-9-10-10x2-11-12 Agree with the above

This forum's meant for site projects and competitions, like when we all get together and make a bunch of arrangements for a certain series or something. So I'm gonna move this to Video Games. But, I would have to say Zelda because the series has lasted much longer than Final Fantasy without going to shit yet

Are you neglecting the CD-I games? Frankly, the Zelda series died with Phantom Hourglass and Twilight Princess. Neither are horrible, but I'll stick to a Link to the Past. Also, I prefer the Final Fantasy series over the Zelda series, even though the genres are VASTLY different. |

I agree with you LOZ LTTP was a great game, the pre N64 zeldas were much more challenging to me, I just wish the series would man up a bit, swords should dismember body parts or at least make em bleed a little, who else is with me... a manly link, not that androgenous preteen lol

Trying to make a 'cool, edgy' Link led to furry wolf Link in Twilight Princess. That's a fail in my book. Zelda 2 was the darkest the series ever got, and it was a great game. Pouring Link's blood over the ashes of Gannon to resurrect him? That's pretty bad-ass. Sadly, a lot of people got upset about the other changes and they've been mostly formulaic since. LttP, Ocarina and Zelda 2 are the stand-out games in the series, each blazed a new trail in how the game worked. Wind Waker did as well, but in a way I wasn't as fond of. I used to be a big FF fan, but hated 7. I thought 8 was ok and then hated 9. I've played very little of 10 or anything after that. FF 5+6 are classics, but I didn't like the plot of 4 as much. 4 has great music, though. The fact is I pick up and play old Zelda games far more frequently than FF games, so my vote is to the Zelda franchise. |

Its suprising how you didnt care for 7 8 or 9 as they are quite different. Its near impossible not to see someone praising 7, I loved 7, but consider 9 the best for replay and the way it handled abilities and leveling though its character design was horrid and when first seeing kuja, I thought "she" was hot lol. FF8 is by far a freak in the series, but definately worth a play for some good atmosphere created by a wide variety of music styles. I see a lot of people praise FF10 and a lot of people hate on FF10. Graphicly it was a major leap, musicly it was fairly good I guess as it conveyed the right feeling for the particular area and I found the sphere grid as a breath of fresh air for the series. Really through playing 1,2,5,6,7,8,9,10, and 12 I believe 12 is by far the most disappointing. The map is fantastic, the weapon classes are great, the characters are multi dimensional.. but the story was BORING, it seemed the main character had little to do with most events, basicly adding a bit of humor or being "along for the ride". As a RPG fan I was excited and at the same time turned off by 12, but still say when not paying attention to the story, it serves as a fun and interesting battle system :S And as for twilight it felt forced. LOZ needs an image change of some kind, maybe some earth tones and greys, or maybe snow.... or just maybe like I said before...[Link] as a manly guy with a claymore who actually gets some time with Zelda after he saves the day :O

Better is always a question of one's opinion. The music in both series can stand alone as good music, it's just coincidence they are tabbed so much, because great games don't need to have great music to be great, but the beautiful thing is these particular series do.

I will start to tell you about Final fantasy, once a time my favorite series, now, something that i don't recognize. I can't say much things of TLoZ, i haven't played all the series, just phantom hourglass, ocarina of the time, and LTtP, and i can say that there is nothing new between each other... just a bit, the history line changes a bit, almost nothing, but oooh right, what history line i'm talking about, there are just theories about the real history line, and Aonuma says "Noooo! we have the accurate storyline written in order" while i think, they did it wrong. If i were 5 years ago watching this topic, i'd say, "Tehehe, my favorite series are FF, but i can't compare games of different genres!" Sorry for the loong reply :O... but that's what i think it's happening here.

yeah, that's the reason I prefer the LoZ games over FF. I like the crystal chronicles series, but that's it. I've been hearing rumors of a futuristic zelda game, which is how FF went down the toilet for me. They're only rumors though, hopefully... |

As everyone said, it's really hard comparing them.... I think my choice is FF, but only cause I prefer RPGs over Action Adventure games.... |

you seem to be forgetting that this is Nintendo that means LOZ games arent going to be bloodied up. and as for the puzzles they are supposed to be challenging not only does it make it fun, but it makes up for what you think is missing. the game is just fine without gore that stuffs for GOW anyways
