http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Do ... 1168523.gc That's an Epiphone Dot Studio, semi-hollow-body electric. I love that guitar, I'll be getting it sometime near '09 probably. |

The 'look' of a guitar can be important, but really getting a good guitar is more important than getting a particular type, in my eyes. If you find an SG-style guitar that you love, you will learn to love the sound of an SG through your playing it. You can have that same experience with any style of guitar- go with what takes you! I personally think the Magna Centipede would sound best through a humbucking or active-pickup guitar, and that Aruarian Dance is best suited to a Strat or acoustric-electric— but this is totally subjective, and you can play any song on any guitar. With the wide range of variables affecting your tone (pick v. fingers, strum v. pluck, pick-up selection, amp/effects/processor, and the like) you shouldn't feel limited to a particular guitar for any given song or sound. Explore your options! |

Hey guys!
I've thought a lot about buying a new guitar. I just have an western style acoustic guitar (without pickup and amp) - its a great one and i love to play it. But i also want to play all the mega man x and many more songs on an electric guitar.
So i was wonder what guitar i should buy?
If i would just buy what looks cool, it would be some les paul, for sure. It realy looks pretty cool to me.
But then i also see "hollow body" guitars, which seems to fit my style of playing better.
Im pretty much a fingerpicker and play lots of VGM.
So whats exactly the difference between a hollow body and les paul? If i wanted to play something like this song:

besides i also would love to play this song:
