Your first song.

Just wondering what you guys all started off playing. For me I started off with an acoustic and right away started messing around. Within 3 months I felt I was good enough to start learning an actual song. First song I learned was Stairway to Heaven. It seemed easy enough.

Your turn.

Well, I knew about 50 three chord folk songs within the first couple of weeks...I guess my first song besides those would be Tangerine by Led Zeppelin. I remember feeling so cool arpeggiating (word? maybe...) that C to G/B to Am chord progression.

My first song was some blink 182 song my friend tried to teach me. This was about 4 years ago...it took me 2 weeks to learn Come As You Are, the bass riff, on guitar. I guess that shows how far you can come in 4 years since im now the best guitarist in my school, all you gotta do is practice. The 1st full song I ever learned was a really fun arrangment of In My Life by The Beatles arranged by Laurance Juber (amazing acoustic guitarist, up there with tommy emmanuel and the like)...next to video game music my next love is the beatles....

My first song was bach's bouree from the E minor lute suite. Followed by the Romanza and Asturias. That was just dumb. I have no idea what my teacher was trying to do to me. Really I should've started with easier songs.

The bouree wasn't that bad. Asturias was what killed me. Took me months and months to learn that. I could punch him for that.

When I taught I always started with the Segovia's 24 Sor estudios along with Brouwer's eStudios Sencillos. MUCH better than throwing some kid at Bach.

Lol! Stairway to Heaven was my first also. But I never did anything past the intro. Felt that chords weren't my thing. After that I just moved onto the Master of Puppets and Bubble Man's solos. My first classical piece to learn in it's entirety was Classical Gas.

I did a lot of folk fingerpicking songs. One of them was Freight Train. The first classical piece I learned was a Minuet by Johann Phillip Krieger, followed by Classical Gas.

I played bass in a real shitty band in college (British college - age 16 - 19), then played rhythm and lead for a band after that. Then I learnt that loud music sucks balls. Well, not really, but real music is awesome-o. Wish I had lessons but never did...

My first song I learnt the whole way through was God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols (bass guitar).

Oh, to be 15 again lol.

I think my first bass song was 'My Baby Just Cares for Me' by Nina Simone, and Cream's 'Sunshine...' around that time.

On guitar I don't remember what I started trying to play, but the first song I learned through was Theme of Love from FFIV (thanks, Ron Kruz!)

Anyways, the first song I learned was Forever Young by Bob Dylan.

"Hash Pipe" by Weezer on the bass way back in 2001. Very simple bassline and my mom helped me figure it out (she plays guitar.) I actually can't stand that song now.

I learned "Turn the Page" (The Bob Seger version, not Metallica) as my first song, but it was just strumming two alternating chords.

The first song I really learned? The chords for "Time for me to Fly," by REO Speedwagon. It's kinda funny, I had no real interest in anything but Zelda tunes until then, but thanks to my guitar teacher, now that remains one of my favorite albums.

My first song? 'Retrovertigo' by Mr. Bungle.

Before that, I tried to learn The Beatles' 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds', but that night I was a little bladdered, and regurgitated that night's liquor down beside the bed and slept. Man, I remember that night. It was my 20th birthday, and I had received the guitar as an early gift a month before. It was a Sunburst 1961 (or a Danelectro Silvertone, I can't remember, one of the two).
