SUPER LEO BROS. BETA

MUNDO 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3 are now complete as of 4/25/08.

There have been many major revisions to 1-1, particularly the underground puzzle (now it contains a puzzle instead of an instant death), and one of the solutions have been removed from the large wall puzzle. 1-2 has been unchanged, although I might soon make it easier as I haven't beaten it yet without rewinding (TIP: STAY ON TOP OF THE WALL). 1-3 has been created from scratch today. It was definitely, without a doubt, the hardest to engineer so far. I won't spoil the surprise, so check it out. 1-4 has been unchanged from the original game, so it can be beaten easily. The game ends after 1 world, so beat Bowser and check out what Princess Archi has to say.

PLAYTESTERS NEEDED

I really need feedback. Specific information, as in what puzzles you find the best so I can do similar ones, which puzzles you dislike the most so I can possibly change it, maybe a puzzle you're stuck on. Perhaps an idea for a later MUNDO? Maybe a high score run, perhaps a speedrun or something, I dunno. Let me know how I'm doing.

JESUS CHRIST COME ON THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE SOLUTIONS TO THIS PUZZLE AND YOU CAN GO AROUND IT JUST SOLVE IT

YOU'RE GOING TO COMPLAIN BEFORE YOU'VE EVEN PLAYED 1-2? FINE I'LL WRITE YOU A LITTLE WALKTHROUGH

One of the easiest methods to get through the Wall of Impeccable Blockitude (WIB) in 1-1:

STEP 1: Run up to here and just jump through the gap after the ? block to the other side. I'll wait for you.

Game over already? Damn.

Fine, this time go over it.

STEP 2: Jump into that little hole as seen in the following image. It's not that hard.

STEP 3: "Hard" part. Walk forward slightly towards the Wall of Impeccable Blockitude and let the floor slide you towards it. Don't run forward, just go with the flow. Jump out before getting hit by the Koopa. You should now be inside as pictured.

OPTIONAL METHOD: You can get the mushroom to you without doing the screen sliding trick. You'll have to bounce the mushroom on the seafoam blocks though. You really only get one chance so I generally avoid it.

STEP 4: Run to the right. You should notice than rather the screen traveling with you as you stay in the center, you are fixated to the right of the screen.

STEP 5: Jump up to the left. This ordinarily cannot be done unless you slide the screen.

STEP 6: Jump out of the left side (which is ordinarily blocked off, make sure you have sufficient room) and then venture on to the right. Congratulations, you have now conquered the Wall of Impeccable Blockitude and it's less necessary twin brother!

Please hesitate to ask me again if you're all fgts who have trouble with a puzzle. It's supposed to be CHALLENGING!

Update of sorts. Small update to Leo's sprite where he now actually resembles Leo instead of Mario while being stationary, and hueg overhaul to 1-2. Takes place in flooded kingdom now. There is also a large way to skip about half the stage and have the remaining third a cakewalk. The first half is really risky difficult, although there's a really easy method to get to the last third cakewalk. I'll take screenies eventually. No changes to 1-3, extremely minor changes to 1-1.

Oh yeah, this was all copypasted from forum posts. Now you're up to date on Super Leo Bros.

Yeah, what the giant pear said.

Is this some kinda game? If it is, where can I play it? It kinda reminds me of super mario bros.

Oh, whoops, I haven't posted here in a while about this. It should remind you of Super Mario Bros., because it IS Super Mario Bros. It's a romhack (as they are called) that makes it into a puzzle-platformer. It assumes the user is remotely familiar with the original game for some aspects. I started doing a main page for it a while ago though I haven't done much with it in a while. http://x-vid.comixmd.com/el/index.html was probably it.

The last public release was 1.1 on June 14th, 2008, though I have a newer nightly build around somewhere. The game itself is here:

Save that image and open it in WinRAR. For legality purposes the rom is somewhat hidden, though if you don't have WinRAR and are too thick to get it (extremely recommended), PM me and I'll ftp a nightly build.

I didn't post the updates in this thread, so the above index is probably preferable for updates. The project began (really crappily) back in November of 07, it did a full reboot in April and then if I don't say so myself, it turned out rather decent. Each level has two or more paths for you to take if you find one too difficult. I'm trying to differentiate this from these stupid "platform hell" games that are all the rage. It's meant to resemble the old "Nintendo Hard" games for the NES that don't tell you what to do and seem impossible but on closer inspection are actually quite doable.

Ugh....the stale taste of hacked roms. Looks like a lame Super Mario Bros. Plain and simple

To each their own. That is, assuming that you've even seen it or tried it.

Otherwise, I'll have to mention that I hate the new wave of "platform hell" games that are all the rage. SLB is meant to be played without savestates, as if it were on an actual console (I play it on the Wii thanks to the homebrew channel). Most romhacks are utter crap, and I made this for fun and games. Don't knock it till you've tried it.
