Definitely one of those hot Eclipse guitars by ESP or LTD, or a really slick Epiphone (but with better pick-ups) or Gibson. I wouldn't mind a really good Jackson guitar, something like a Dinky or Rhandy Rhoads.

But one guitar I am planning to get is the ESP Ltd EC-500

Mahogany body.
Mahogany neck (set-neck, not bolt-on).
Rosewood fretboard.
EMG 81/60 Humbucking pick-ups.
24 frets e 24.75 scale.
Ebony Black with white contours.

And some other nice stuff. It's sheer beauty.

Personally I am saving up for a Edwards Les Paul.
Edwards is basically the same brand as ESP, but for the japanese market. And apparently their LPs play just like Gibsons, and have better sustain, etc.

I was also looking into the ESP eclipse line, but then I saw these beauties...and at 1/2-1/3 of the price, how could you lose? :P

I'll probably be getting one soon, I just changed string gauges on a floyd rose...never again!

In Sweden, guitars are far more expensive than in countries like the united states (though I'm guessing you live in Australia). For instance, the guitar I want to buy costs about 1500 USD, but I bet it costs around 1000 USD in the states. Nevertheless, the EC-500 comes with 24 frets, not 22 (as a rhythm and lead guitarists with small hands and fingers, having 24 frets on the same scale, 24.75, as 22 frets, that helps a lot). They also come with EMG 81 and EMG 60 pick-ups, which are one of the best pick-ups there is.

The prices are pretty jacked up in Australia too! The EC-500 is like $1700AUD (~$1550 USD) here at music stores, sometimes more. In most cases for me, if I import a guitar from the states or japan, it will end up being significantly cheaper than what I could get it for here. My last guitar was $400USD including shipping from the states, and the cheapest I could find it for here was around $900USD.

The EC-500 seems like a good guitar, mainly the 24 frets on a 24.75 scale. Is this limited to the LTD guitars? Because I don't think the ESP versions have any with that spec.

I think that blue guitar at the bottom, Betty, is gorgeous. However, If I ever go fretless, I'll probably just de-fret the neck of some guitar myself.

I'd also like a travel guitar for convenience purposes.

I don't understand fretless instruments. I don't see how you could do anything but just randomly solo.

My friend has a mini Martin and it's not any more convenient really. It just makes you feel better than if you brought a full size and feeling awkward carrying it around. The backpacker seems like it be convenient though.

The only Eclipse models that featured 24 frets are the ones in the ESP graphic series, and the LTD models EC-1000 and EC-500. I can't find any regular ESP guitars with 24 frets but I'm sure there are, it would be weird otherwise.

I'm thinking about getting something like an Epiphone Les Paul Standard, but they only have 22 frets, and I'm concerned the pick-ups aren't good. I mean, Alnico Classic pick-ups, what is that? Can they compare with some of the best EMG pick-ups?

The thing is, the EC-500 comes in three colors only, and I don't particularly fancy either, and it's a very heavy guitar... sigh...

LP style guitars tend to be on the heavier side. If you want to get a 24 fret guitar, why not get one in the 25 1/2" scale? They're more common, and they come in bodies that are usually lighter. I personally don't need 24 frets, the bottom 2 frets hardly get used, and if you need to you could always bend the notes.
EMGs are great pickups, they're usually associated with metal type music. If you do get a guitar with generic pickups, you always have the option of installing new ones. I think you can get an EMG set brand new off ebay for around 200USD.

The only reason want a 24 fret guitar is because it's harder to bend the 22nd fret on a 22 fret guitar. I mean like, extremely hard to me. So while 24 frets isn't a must, it helps in that area. And a 24 3/4" scale guitar with 24 frets means lesser interval between frets, am I right? This helps me too because both my hands and my fingers are kind of small and a slight decrease in length could help me out, too.

I was thinking about that yesterday; I just buy my EMG 60 and EMG 81 pck-ups and install them on my other guitar but that costs quite a bit, too, so I'd have to try to find a cheaper guitar with good body (the heavier the wood, the better; ebony and mahogany are nice choices). Preferably with a Set-Neck, and it has to look good, and still be able to compensate if the neck hasn't got 24 frets or something.

There's plenty to think about, and while I have much more freedom in one way if I decide to install the EMG pick-ups, it's also the fact that I love the Eclipse model... :/

But, I'm still looking around. Hopefully I'll find something nice!

Les Pauls are a tad bit overrated, agreed, but heavy comes with fine wood and their models just insisting on being thick like that. But they're great guitars. And you can't argue against Fenders, Iron Maiden's using them and they're making some sweet heavy metal with them. And don't compare them to a semi-acoustic guitar ;)

But yeah, not into Gibson stuff, way too heavy. I prefer ESP/LTD, they offer cooler stuff.

EDIT: Forget ESP for now. Gonna go with Jackson guitars. Probably gonna buy a DK2 Dinky now and when touring starts, I'll buy an RR3 Rhoads, too.

I'm after a travel sized one as well. Had my eye on the Yamaha GL1, a Guitarlele. It looks like a nice one but i don't think you can put steel strings on it so it might sound a little dull. Maybe the Martin-LX1 will be a better choice for me.

I got one of these for about $1000 AUS off because of a minor nick behind the head.

Getting a Gibson as your first guitar at $1100 AUS is pretty damn cool.

What I would like to get next, possibly a Line 6 Spider Jam amp and a Epiphone (or if I'm lucky, cheap Gibson) Les Paul. I do like the steel acoustics though.

Does anyone have any better suggestions for cheap-ish Electric's or good amps with effects (I need me some distortion, sustain, echo et cetera)?

I bought this guitar for my partner, who plays fingerstyle (as do I). It has Great instruments. Excellent, Full tone, balanced across all registers. Surprisingly Got Free shipping while using Guitar Center Promo Codes loud for its small size and lightweight. The fit and finish are perfect. This guitar will only get better with terms and use. It has a long life ahead of it. I have a 000-28EC and an HD-28, both Amazing guitars, but I love this little guy enough to think I want to get one for myself.

I checked it's out of stock right now. Right now I have JN Guitars Scotia SCO-A Auditorium Acoustic Guitar. The amazing thing about this guitar is it has a side soundhole, they don't give you the bag with it you have to buy it separately. This guitar price was around $721 but this was on Guitar Center sale so I bought it for just $613.
