Hello everyone.

My name is Patrick, I'm 27 years old and live in Brazil. I started playing acoustic guitar last year. I've been ever sorrounded by musicians my entire life, though I just recently decided to try for myself. Actually, I was loosing interest when I decided to try and learn some of my favorite songs from the games that I've played through childhood/adolescence.

I don't have a lot of time to practice, since work and study are taking it's toll, courtesy of my late decision to quit alcohol, women, nightlife... don't even know if I can mention those here, but hey, just giving some pointers, making myself a little more real.

The reason I decided to join is that I would really appreciate some help, pointers, guidelines... specially, I'd love to get in touch with learning methods. So far I've only been learning by myself, reading a little about theory and trying to play by ear. When I discovered gametabs I was very happy, helped me a lot, though I still enjoy trying it by ear.

Anyways, I hope I can run into fellas like Stamen47 (to whom I'm very thankful for his To Zanarkand arrangement), Archard (a more lively version of Terra's theme than lonlon's); as well as other people whose work I'm not familiar with, and even more newbs willing to get better.

I have some old videos that I plan to upload on youtube soon, and I would really appreciate any imput I can get.

Thanks a bunch.

Cheers mates.

P.S.: excuse any occasional misspelling or grammar mistakes, been a while since I had the opportunity to do some sort of actual communication in english.

If you're from Brazil, you have some very good guitar company! Did you hear a lot of Villa-Lobos growing up?

I recently posted an easier version of Stamen's Zanarkand arrangement. If you're getting into fingerstyle guitar, but his is too difficult, give it a look!

And then I realized that the chord progression from Chrono Cross's Another World is the same progression as the chorus from Peace of Mind by Boston, and life was never quite the same.

First of all: thank you so much, everyone: jacob, yasha, world, musenji, rex, doom and BigHead: 'twas a very heartwarming welcome.

Now, answering to musenji: I already finished stamen's version, but I would gladly learn yours! Also, I'm a big fan of Villalobos, and he's very famous among us. I'm happy that you are aware of his work, since he's definetly the one of our country's greatest exponents of the guitar art. Unfortunately, I only know study number 1 and 2, but I will most certainly learn more about his work as I progress.

I have a video, which I uploaded yesterday, but was recorded a few months before. I had just found stamen's version, as I was trying by lonlon's, so it's incomplete. As soon as I get the camera back I'll upload a whole version on youtube.

Thanks once again guys.

EDIT: heres's the video. Cam sucks, terrible static, but I think it's enough to get some pointers from you guys. Thanks to anyone who losses it's time watching! o/

Heya Patrick! Being from Brazil, are you familiar with Celso Machado? I recently had a masterclass with him for some ensemble stuff. Then I got to hang out with him a bit after his concert at Arizona State University. He's an amazing musician and an awesome person.

If anyone is not familiar with him, he's a great example of contemporary Brazilian music.

Yes, Villa-Lobos is one of the guitar greats. I also like Baden Powell, bossa nova and all that. :D

I watched the video, and it appeared that were still learning the piece, but had a grasp on it. If that video is a few months old, then I hope to see a new version soon!

I speak some Spanish, but I assume your first language is Brazilian Portugese?

First off: thank you too, Nate, for making me feel more welcome, and also, for knowing cultural refferences that are close to me. I heard about Celso's work through a friend, he was a member of a christian rock band 'round here; in a time when rock and christianity didn't mixed so good. He helped to break some barriers, though I myself am just a spiritual person who believes that true religion should be the search for one.

I'm not so familiar with his work, but maybe I could start getting familair now =] I'm very happy to know that he was able to carry the art so far, speccially happy that I had the opportunity to hear this story from you, first hand.

Musenji: now, that guy was something different too! Heitor was more about the classical, but Powell had a certain jazzy influence wich just granted a different color to brazilian music. In fact, Vinicius de Moraes and all thgat crew from MPB is very much influenced by this guy. I really prefer Brazil's 20's, 30's and 40's because of these two guys. Bossa Nova trully is, to me, the last great guitar moment of Brazil, with Vinicius, Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque.

I will gladly share what I know about it ( I only play Girl from Ipanema "Garota de Ipanema"), but I have a lot of afficionate friends who just know it all about it.

Oh, and the video is indeed older, hehe. As soon as I get the camera back I'll put the full version of the song online, and hope to get some pointers. As soon as I get some time, I promisse to put your version online as well, Musenji =D

I would now really like to have a sensitive question answered: I read in the forums something about lonlonjp not allowing his tabs here. Though I can understand that, I would like to know if we're allowed to learn his songs by ear and talk about them here. I learned Tufa's and Yuffie's and Shadow'w Theme such way, as well as some other themes from different FF's. Of course I intend to ask for his permission before uploading it, but yeah, I would like to know gametabs policy on the subject, if I'd be allowed to post a link to the video so you guys can help me with the corrections.

Thanks again guys.

Oh! I forgot to say, since you already learned Stamen's, there's no need to learn mine, as it's just an easier version of his. (unless you just really want to)

If you want to learn one of my tabs, I'd say try this out, everyone seems to like this song:

Some other time then I'll learn yours. Even if it's easier, I trully believe that people 'd appreciate the visual aid when it comes to learning. Also, it's better to give people easier versions, since we all know that the emotion of realizing the notes... it's hard to describe... what I mean is that I'll gladly put some easier versions, even some lessons based on people's tabs. Just need a little more time, and a little more help from ye folks =D

Also, about breezy: I didn't remember which music it was, but as soon as I started playing that chill came down my spine, and almost instantly Balamb came to mind. That's the greatest emotion of sharing: I don't know 'bout you guys, but I played FF games on a time when people thought these where for socially inadequate people. Today the world understands a little more the depth of games, but the art of games like FF is still beingdiscovered. It's very moving to share these with you guys.

Just started your version mate. It'll be my next song, certainly. As soon as I get a cam I'll share it all. Say, I have the original midi file from FFVIII... may I use it or uI download the one in the tab link? My midi pretty much goes like this

Thank you, Enea! On Lee's (the cat's name) behalf, of course, hehe. He's very much attention driven, he's got a certain talent for knowing when people are discussing him, and he loves it. I got 5 more, 3 dogs and a horse.

I love animals!

And Auri, I don't intend to put lonlon's tabs in here, of course, but is it ok if I post videos on youtube for you guys to comment and help me with it? I mean, I'm a very insecure person when it comes to training, things are never good enough. More than putting it up to get complemments, I want to upload the videos so you guys can help me correct things, or just give an oppinion about, since I don't feel that these musics should always use the same tempo as the originals. For instance, the Zanarkand that I uploaded is at a slower pace, 'cuz I feel it it comes more natural on a guitar. Pianos are naturally blunter, it's in the nature of the instrumment, and fast pacing it a song like that on it sounds better.

Personal oppinion, of course.

EDIT: musenji, I'm going to send you a PM with a question on Breezy. I'm finding quite pleasant to play, and it's coming along pretty smoothly. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time for internet and for practicing, but I believe that I might have a grasp on it 'tiil the weekend.
