The bill was "LAGQ with Philip Proctor". I was thinking, oh cool, they'll have a soloist join them, and his name sounds like a trumpet player. I was wrong. Philip Proctor is an actor who voiced characters in some of the most famous Pixar films--Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo. The program was not a program of guitar quartet music. It was a dramatic/comedic reading of Don Quixote (probably quite abridged, but still over 2 hours) with genuine Spanish Renaissance music as the background. For what it was, it was absolutely world-class, and I've never seen anything like it. Unfortunately, I wasn't attending in order to hear 2 to 2 and a half hours of reading, with the music serving as mere background. So while it was great as a new experience (very fortunately, I didn't know the story), it was still a pretty big disappointment. My favorite part of the entire concert was when, after the reading was finished, the quartet continued playing for a couple minutes, in closing. That part totally rocked.

And then I realized that the chord progression from Chrono Cross's Another World is the same progression as the chorus from Peace of Mind by Boston, and life was never quite the same. |
