This guy's drum guitar skill is amazing!

I've switched all my practice to learning how to do drum beats with a melody like he does. This totally unknown guy is my new inspiration lol

Talented guy.

Someone's probably gonna mention Andy Mckee soon...

Andy McKee and Antoine Dufour are great but I like how this guy plays more contemporary music. Plus he doesn't use weird open tunings like DADGAD and all that jazz, I hate retuning my guitar just to learn a song lol

I found that really mediocre.

I found that really mediocre. That was pretty plain imo.
Maybe it is not the right video to show off his skills, but yeah :/

Andy Mckee's music gets

Andy Mckee's music gets really monotonous for me after a couple songs. No real strength of melodic line or progression, just loads and loads of texture.

If anyone has a link to counter that statement, I will gladly watch!

And then I realized that the chord progression from Chrono Cross's Another World is the same progression as the chorus from Peace of Mind by Boston, and life was never quite the same.

Do you have any tips on how to do the techno drum beat while arpeggio-ing at 1:05? I'm having difficulty getting a clear tone while thumping my wrist...

Also, check out his other songs, he's pretty good!

I agree with you musenji but I think his song Rylynn does counter your statement.

What a great melody!

Apparently this guy has the same problem, as he's anchoring his thumb above the string to keep it in place for the next bass note. The 'kick drum' movement should be done with as less movement as possible, and is usually employed in a see-saw like motion - when the wrist comes down, a finger or thumb comes up from under the string. It takes practice though, especially when using multiple fingers like this guy (who is also not getting a great tone when doing it). Oh, and to avoid injury try to focus the impact onto the bone in the corner of your palm.

I agree with you musenji, but

I agree with you musenji, but I went to see him recently and the melody was far more pronounced than in these old candyrat recordings.

Agreed, I've heard that song and I do like it more than his others!

[edit] Kara, that is wicked funky!!! [edit 2] On listening more, does he have another guitar track playing behind? Cause some parts I'm getting that "12 string guitar" ringy sound. Or is he feeding through an effects thinger?

My fav is this guy...though this is a little "off topic" since this isn't one of his more percussive ones, but it's full of plingy harmonics that make me happy:

Obviously it sounds better when you're actually there, since it's live, but I think the recording is alright.

He's using an 8 string baritone guitar so that might be part of why it sounds different.
