Video Game Musical Techniques for Guitar Project

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in contributing to make a pdf filled with musical ideas from video games translated to guitar. For example, think of the harmonies that are created from NES tunes, or the arpeggios used in some video game music. Also, some music could be adapted to use techniques. Such as adapting songs to make bigger use of string skipping, or adapting game music for legato playing.

I am actively trying to create a list to fit each technique/category. If anyone would be interested in helping, comment or message me on here. Also, if you know any songs that would be great for adapting into guitar techniques, let me know as well.

Here are a list of techniques that I could think of off the top of my head. If anyone has more techniques to add let me know.

  • Harmonies
  • Power Chords
  • Arpeggios
  • Sweep Picking
  • String Skipping
  • Alternate Time Signatures
  • Inside Picking
  • Intervallic Slides
  • Using Open Strings
  • Open String Arpeggios
  • Using Modes
  • Chromatics and Using Them
  • Harmonics
  • Tapping and Legato
  • Note Bending and Articulations (Hammer on, pull off, palm mute, trem picking, trill, accent, staccato, vibrato)
  • Note Subdivision
  • Speed bursts
  • Rhythm techniques

Beautiful example! I'll note it for string skipping. Can never go wrong with a Mega Man tune. Another great example of string skipping that I remember is the first stage of Ninja Gaiden. Thanks for the suggestion!
