What kind of guitar do you have or what kind of music do you want to play? Any references of artists you're interested (possibly vg related since this is more of a vg music guitar forum) in or any game series?

And don't leave the irc after barely two minutes, the users online don't check constantly the chatroom, you can always get a slightly delayed answer.

I started out playing stuff that I learned from Marty Schwartz on Youtube and playing some of the easier video game songs on this website, not that I know of any in particular to name. :3

Figure out what style you want to play. Learning fingerstyle is like learning a different instrument than playing with a pick.

(You can learn both, of course!)

yo!
I started playing when I was 16 (two years ago), and that was probably the best thing I ever did for myself, i'd like to think I've improved quite a bit. Make sure you check youtube for good tutorials, ask friends who already play guitar to give you some pointers, and of course, make lots of recordings here and then ask for critique.
look forward to hearing from you!

Okay, well it really depends on what you want to get out of the guitar, and where you want to go.

If you're happy with just practicing tabs for the rest of your life - without knowing anything else, and will NEVER (EVER [EVER] ) change your mind on this - then by all means just start practicing tabs, as that's all you'll need to do.
However, if you might want to be able to play rhythms you've never heard - then you will need to learn to read sheet music. It's really easy, and I highly recommend it. This will open your ability to play to an entirely larger world (between 100-10,000x more music will be available to you).
The next step to getting better would be a metronome, as metronomes help you to focus on keeping time. I cannot credit a metronome enough for being helpful, and giving me faster progress and more confidence. It's easy to be afraid of the metronome, so take it slowly, and don't rush.
In another direction to getting better, learning basic music theory is supremely helpful. You'll be able to understand where a melody fits, and where it can go next easily, and where it can go next with great difficulty. How to frame a melody with chords. How to make chords fit together. How to write down the stuff you come up with so you don't forget it. It also opens you up to all kinds of music, especially if you learn the basics of sound (usually not covered in any music courses to a depth that makes it useful).

It's all about what you want. And remember - you have your entire life ahead to enjoy music, so don't be afraid of opening more than one door. :)

Yo little kid.
I'm not a skilled guitarist, all I can teach you is a simple golden rule.
Everyone can be good, just hang on and practice. Someone learn fast, some other are slow as hell, but if you truly love guitar, you will reach your goal sooner or later. Don't rush anything and take your time. Sound simple and stupid, but is how it is.
Enjoy GameTabs and this yummy pasta.

If you want to play tabs i recommend you to start with the "Sadness and Sorrow" tab here: http://www.gametabs.net/anime/naruto/sadness-and-sorrow-0

It's a fairly easy tab, if you can play it well you can try and learn an advanced version of it here: http://www.911tabs.com/link/?6627534

now these are quite easy, but by learning step by step, for the first one is a melody and the second an arragment, you will be able to play it like this after a time: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/l/lonlonjp/sadness_and_sorrow_tab.htm

But be sure to learn basic guitar techniques(Hammer on, Pull off, etc.), before attempting the last.

That's how I learned playing the guitar decently.

EDIT: And be sure to learn this, it gives you a basic understanding of where notes lie
in case you ever want to write music yourself or encounter a score http://www.guitarlessons4you.com/images/guitar-scales/guitar-notes-fretb...

Heres my tip:

If something is too hard and frustrating to play, Play it as slow as it takes til you get it. A little each day until you get it. But practice other stuff in the mean time and before you realize it you will have it down.
No point in wasting all your time even 20 hours+ on 1 part of a song and then only end up with that 1 part.

That and sometimes you just need to put the guitar down for a day. Let what you been working on soak in your brain a little.
