new cover of "listen to the cries of the planet"

Hi Everyone!

I just made this cover of "Listen to the cries of the planet", almost completely with acoustic instruments!
I used: banjo, violin, piano, oboe, englisch horn, voices and recorder. My brother added some electric guitar too :)
Enjoy!

Lovely, acousticcetra! Someone finally beat me to posting an actual recording here with vocals! I've subscribed to your channel.

My only critique would be that the sound comes in slightly harsh/dry at times--maybe reduce the high end? Is anyone else hearing the same thing?

You're going to send me to practice my scales and come up with something!

And then I realized that the chord progression from Chrono Cross's Another World is the same progression as the chorus from Peace of Mind by Boston, and life was never quite the same.

Still awesome job acousticcetra, oh and welcome to Gametabs.

Which instrument do you think sounds harsh? Or all the instruments? I'm using a microphone that was intended just for my oboe's. I think my violin sounds a bit dry. But I'm still learning in this field of recording :)

I'll listen again. Harsh

I'll listen again. Harsh isn't the right word, necessarily. At points the trebles were strong enough that it was almost piercing, but that was on my laptop speakers which are crappy and tinny, so it's not a fair evaluation method.

But I was referring to the overall sound, not one particular instrument. I'd just take the entire track and EQ down the highest end a bit.

Yeah, it happens the most

musenji

Yeah, it happens the most with the sections that have the most parts overlapping. It sounds like it's just the accumulated background fuzz from all the different parts being recorded.

Which is not to say that it's terribly bad, but it's there. I'd EQ it out or use noise removal if possible.

I want to re-emphasize that overall, the arrangement and execution is awesome, and I hope you do more work in the future!

Thank you musenji!! I made the recording with audacity, which doesn't have an equalizer.. or I cannot find one. I also have logic pro, but still have to find out how it works though! :)

Under the "Effect" menu, go to "Equalization". :-)

Any chance you could shoot me the audacity file and sound data and I could take a crack at it?

I just did a quick recording (been a long time i didn't really pratice at guitar, so it's not really good...).

The main melody is not that bad played i think but few clics make me HATE the whole thing...

I wasn't that inpired for the solo and i think it ends badly !

So if you guys are okay to play the melody and the solo (or make a duo with mine idk) i'd be happy ! :D

Ok guys, GOOD NEWS !!!

Right now we got all those songs finished : Sans titre.png

Thanks a lot everyone, this is BADASS :D

So YOU STILL CAN ENTER ! whatever your level is, whatever you play !

but we must start PHASE 2 ^^
Which is : Make a CD cover, with a title, a picture or drawning, with credits on the back etc...
Make sure that some tracks are not louder than the others (i think Link's songs are louder).
Try to find ways to make it know on internet (FB, Youtube, Forums...)

EDIT : i took some of the songs from youtube and this doesn't always sounds good, if you send send me the MP3 here (in 320 if possible) that'd be great ;)

But this won't last too long ! (if you really don't have the time, don't worry i already have 2 albums concept in mind XD)

If you don't have any inspiration i still search for somone to help me on the "Sandy Badlands" track.

I also made 2 arrangements : Caith sith theme and a "Shinra Medley"
zip file (gp 5 and 6 tabs)
anyone can use them as i can't record with my "noise problem" haha ^^

you still can use the tabs in the website ^^

I asked some members to let me use some of their songs so we have 20 songs for 48 minutes of music.
Idk if we will keep everything or make a selection (or make a "best of CD" and a "bonus CD" with the other songs)

amateurs (the 2nd Album of Linkin Park was nearly 40 minutes if I remember right^^)

I would say it's a solid recording, on the way from "technical" to "artistic"--not totally there.

What I mean is that I'm still focusing to a degree on making sure I get all the notes, rather than letting the notes happen and focusing on interpretation. It feels a little tense or "attacky" in spots, and I don't fully incorporate dynamics or "feel".

Also it was recorded on my old microphone.

And my face is all scrunchy/tense in the video, again because I was focusing quite a bit on getting all of the notes.

Font is a little weak on the cover. The Title of the album feels a bit "amateur" due to the lack of Hierarchy between the first and 2nd line. The Color is a little dark and becomes completely overshadowed but the Bright Green of the life stream.

I had to force myself to actually read the font because it doesn't catch your eye. Good text layout communicates the message to you and the point of it is to prevent having to make the viewer "read" it. Try to use a different font, or small size for the Gametabs tribute section. Try to use a Sans Serif font and maybe add some "credits" to the bottom or somewhere for the original artist of the music. ( Univers 39 Ultra Condensed is the most common on credit sections )

PM me if you have any questions about Graphic stuff or photoshop and so on.

Indeed. It's not so much my guitar and amps. I'd like a new guitar with 24 frets and a solid loop pedal like a jamman as with a few other pedals.
It is more so the way I record with my microphone. I want to be able to hear what I am playing through the mic as well as the other tracks I'm trying to mix it with. So I need like a headphone splitter that goes to the mic and to my computer but I have a pc and it's right by a huge refrigerator in my house with nowhere else really to put it. Hard to record that way because the mic picks up the noise of the fridge pretty bad. If I just had a laptop and a sound-proof room it would be so much better haha
