Final Fantasy Songs/Albums

Everyone knows that Final Fantasy has a whole bunch of albums released - Original Soundtracks for each game in the series, Piano Collections, Vocal Collections, compilations, arrangements, etc. Listening to every single album ever released would be a great achievement.

Yesterday, I stumbled upon the Final Fantasy: Pray album, which features vocalist Risa Ohki singing over 11 classic FF songs (FFII Main Theme, Theme of Love, Terra/Tina, and Matoya's Cave just to name a few) in English, Japanese, and Portuguese. The album is absolutely stunning. No words can really capture its beauty in my opinion. Each track is solid, and Ohki really makes them shine with her vocals. I'm in love, and so far this is the best FF album I've heard. It has a sequel called Final Fantasy: Love Will Grow, but I've only listened to one song so far (and it's just as amazing as the songs on the first album).

So what about you guys? What are your favorite songs or albums in the series?

The version of the Prelude off of Pray is my favorite version of that song.

Man, I wouldn't say this is easy...I've only listened to Distant Worlds II extensively, but I like the Prima Vista Orchestra arrangement they have on there. It captures that extravagant beauty of the music really well and I feel like I'm at some giddy gala when I hear it. *he then went to youtube to listen to the Pray album*

I'm a piano collections+OST kind of guy. I like the orchestra arranges but it's not what I generally listen to when it comes to this series. Besides that, The Black Mages's Matoya's Cave is possibly my favorite guitar-oriented FF arrange done by uematsu. There are better fan-arranges though, but those aren't official.

I'm very big on the Piano

I'm very big on the Piano Collections and Piano Opera albums. The most difficult album to play that I can think of would be Final Fantasy XIII Piano Collections. I've been playing piano for a few years, but I'm going to hold out on playing the songs on that album until I get better lol

Listened to 2 tracks, so far it sounds great, didn't even know it had a PC (thought it stopped at both of XI's PCs), so going to check it out more in the near future. Loved Aki Kuroda's playing in FFX's PC, so it's good to see him in a more recent album again. Hardest I had tried learning of FFPCs early this year was Raid of the latter's PC. Didn't even get halfway but it was too time-consuming at one point (as in, got hooked to something else and piano was limited to 1-2 hours max per day).

Planning on starting this one soon, my favorite arrange by far. Some parts are just hnnng.

I feel the exact same way about Raid =___= FFVIII PC has caught my attention recently. Eyes on Me, Blue Fields, and Fisherman's Horizon remind me of myself playing the game a few years ago :) oh the nostalgia!

its tough to say, really. i think it always falls on mood. probably a playlist of the piano collections i made like twelve years ago gets the most consistent play to this day. but i own an unholy amount of final fantasy music. the black mages third album, darkness and starlight, is extremely common in my stereo. having been fortunate enough to see one of the Dear Friends concerts live ages ago, the honest truth is, nothing sounds the same since then. the impact of a show like that was massive (not to mention sitting like 15 feet from uematsu the entire time and meeting him afterward). the subtleties and dynamics of those arrangements live are phenomenal. 20020220 was never far from the stereo before the concert, and had to fill the hole that concert left over and over after the fact.
i guess you pick your favorite songs along the way, but having been playing/listening to these games for so long, and the various types of arrangements, and live orchestras, at some point the favorite tracks kind of melt away and its just this overwhelming tapestry of beautiful melodies.

@tiger child: I met Uematsu at the AnimeBoston convention, and I got his autograph. He spoke words to me, and the old slacker musician inside me died lol that meeting changed my life honestly. Or maybe I'm just fangirling xD

@tiger child: A picture with him?? So jealous.

@Giogiogio4: From what I've heard so far, FFIX's music is awesome. I still have to play through the whole game, so I'm purposely not listening to anything I haven't heard in-game yet.

Isn't he such a mellow, kind guy? I mean, you never really know unless you see him a lot, but I was amazed at how casual he was when I met him.

This, so much this. That song makes me tear up every fucking time ;-; the transition into the prologue is just HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG. Personally, I ONLY like the OSTs. Every change Uematsu has tried just didn't work for me. An interesting album is FF IV Celtic Moon, various songs from the sound track covered in a Celtic style...for some reason. I still didn't like it much. I fucking love the OSTs, but fuck the black mages, fuck all the cover thingies...

EDIT: I see some one already mentioned Celtic Moon lol

O_O 2:16 forced me to smile after a horrible day. If anyone questions why I like Nobuo Uematsu so much, this is going to be the video I show them. Thanks for sharing, I must say. :P
