I'm pretty excited to get

I'm pretty excited to get this game. I already ordered it and everything, but I have to wait for Nintendo to ship it to me. I know I could just go out and actually buy it from Gamestop, but there was some...unpleasantness... and I'll never shop there again. Anyway, positive word of mouth and the fact that it was developed by one of the same studios that did the Baten Kaitos games on GameCube was enough to sell me on the game. It's been a long time since I played a new Japanese RPG, so I think it's awesome that they finally decided to release this in the U.S. |

the way you described the combat reminds of white knight chronicles (Level5--dark cloud, DQVIII etc.) and seeing as monolith did it, i think thats a major bonus, plus an awesome line up for composers. only thing is, i dont like wii. like, at all. its a damn shame something like this couldnt have come to other consoles, because man, RPGs have really flopped; except for skyrim and dragon age, what have RPG/jRPG fans really been biting fingernails over these last couple years? final fantasy, ruined. chrono series, vain and fruitless hope; and really, when you look at it, those were the RPG greats, the games defined the genre. what do we have now in comparison to those games? for me, nothing, absolutely nothing. and it literally saddens me to have to rely on dead companies and re-hashes to keep RPgaming alive... people wonder why i moved on to shooters...

Who cares what console it is, good games are good games. Why limit yourself to specific consoles or console war shenanigans. If it's a financial thing I understand because I couldnt afford all 3 consoles either but holding a grudge against a console is somewhat silly. |

its just ive yet to play a game on the wii ive enjoyed; if i owned one kara, it would be collecting dust right now; but, that being said, i would buy it just to give xenoblade a try, cause it looks like great fun and a good game. hell id buy 360 for halo, GoW, and lost odyssey... why not purchase a wii for XC, twilight princess and epic mickey?

EDIT: Also since you seem to like RPGs wayf, there's another game coming out for wii in june called the Last Story and it's getting pretty good reviews. There's also Fire Emblem, Muramasa, FFIV the after years, the FF strategy rpgs and some original IP rpgs too. Not to mention I think it's the only console that has most of the big name SNES rpgs on it's download service (although everyone probably has them in some fashion by now or has played them) Exclusives Sort of Exclusives Well, I'm not going to list every game that's good. You can check out metacritic or something if you really care that much, but there's lots of good games on the wii. You have to ask yourself "Do I not like a console because it doesn't have good games or am I convincing myself I don't like the games because I don't like the console?" Everyone loses the console war, you said yourself you would like the game if it wasn't on the wii! |

I think the combo of a Wii
JujaLocation: Utah Joined: May 27 2007 |
I think the combo of a Wii and PS3 or 360 is good to cover most games that people would want to play. I personally have a Wii and PS3. I have a hell of a lot more games on my Wii than my PS3, though. My PS3 games consist mostly of downloaded games, whereas I have something like... 20 retail Wii games or so. Uhh, I think my point is just that owning a Wii is totally worth it because there are soooo many good games that are Wii exclusive. Aside from Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story is also coming out this summer for Wii (it's another JRPG by the Final Fantasy guy). For the hell of it, here's a list of most of my games on PS3 and Wii - PS3 download games - The Simpsons arcade game, Resident Evil 4 HD, RE: Code Veronica HD, Pixel Junk Monsters, Penny-Arcade adventures episode 1 and 2, and then some other crap that I got for free off of Playstation Plus. Wii download games - I have way too many to list them all, but some notable ones are Final Fantasy IV: After Years, Final Fantasy: My Life as a Dark Lord Swords & Soldiers, Cave Story, and then tons of the best NES and SNES games like Chrono Trigger, FF III/VI, Secret of Mana, Bubble Bobble, Mario 3, Super Mario World, etc. |

I think the wii is a lot like the DS. It wasn't worth it on launch but it's worth it now that it's had time to pick up some steam. I just don't really buy games anymore since Im not working so I missed out on a lot of it's bigger hits. That being said it's got a really solid library. |

I've played about 30 hours of Xenoblade so far. I've spent about half of that time screwing around doing quests for people, and I've been exploiting the game by finding monsters that are too strong for me, but managing to beat them anyway and getting equipment that's way better than what I should have at that point as a result. I won't spoil anything story related for you guys, but there are a few things I should mention about the game overall in case you missed or haven't found out about them yet. - Use instant travel or whatever they call it. This feature saves so much time and frustration, and it's also very necessary since the game world is so massive. If you somehow missed the portion where they explain this, basically you can warp to any landmark in the game at any time by going to the game's maps and selecting which land mark you want to warp to. - That little clock on the menu screen can change the in game time to any time you want. This is really useful for when you're trying to track people down in town to do quests, or if you're trying to fight a monster that's only around during the day or night. - You can increase your party's affinity with each other by going to the collectibles in your inventory and giving them to each other as presents. I didn't figure this out until I was about 25 hours into the game. - Trading with people gives you some achievements, so you may as well at least trade them crappy stuff for other crappy stuff. - Those achievement things actually give you exp. It may not be a big deal, but if there's an easy achievement, you may as well do it to get some extra experience. You'll wind up getting a lot of them eventually just from playing. - You can actually walk right up to those arachno enemies as long as you're only tilting the analog stick slightly. They attack by sound, so I guess by walking slowly, they can't hear you (even if you walk straight into them). This came in very handy when I was trying to get an item that this level 75 arachno was on top of(I was only level 29, so I absolutely could not beat it). - This isn't a big thing, but building up Shulk's backslash art is pretty useful, and it's a good way to start off battles. Going up to an enemy from behind and using backslash to start the battle can immediately kill off weaker enemies, and it will do a good portion of damage to normal enemies. |
Glad you guys liked it! I

I'm just curious how far in you guys are. I'm 60 hours in, but I've done so many side quests and things, that I'm probably more like 35-40 hours into the main story. It's getting pretty cool at the point I'm at. I just discovered 2 things in the story that I had long suspected, but I won't give any spoilers. Also, the daytime overworld music for the Bionis Leg might be my favorite song in the game so far. Maybe because I spent so damn much time roaming around there doing quests, so it's the song I've heard the most. |

Super Paper Mario was fun and funny as hell. The only problem with the game was when it got to the parts where there would be a ridiculous amount of talking. Plus, the game had this guy: http://images.wikia.com/nintendo/en/images/5/58/Francis.jpg I'm not 76 hours into Xenoblade and I've done over 200 quests. I've found some new areas with some pretty cool music, but I won't post links to it as to avoid spoiling things for other people. I really hope I'm not the only one on this site that winds up actually finishing the game. |

After 5 years of collecting dust I finally have a reason to use my wii *awkward pause*.
No, seriously. This game is really good. It almost didn't make it stateside either, but people really pushed for it online and Nintendo made it happen. Don't make them regret that decision by not buying this game!
I am not terribly far in the game but....
Why is it awesome? First of all it's developed by Monolith Soft (the same people that did xenogears/xenosaga) and a lot of ex square people work there.
The soundtrack is composed by Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter 2, Super Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts, Mario and Luigi, Parasite Eve) And Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger/Cross, Shadow Hearts, Anything with "xeno" in the name. Visually the game is pretty looking (about as good as the Wii can manage hardware wise) The game gives you lots of control options and has support for dual audio (Japanese or English depending on your preferences). Additionally the game gives you little story blurbs any time you want to let you know what you were doing or where you were supposed to be going.
The combat is real time and somewhat MMO-esque but more involving than say FFXII. You move around in real time while autoattacking but you have several special abilities tied to cooldowns. Every time you autoattack your abilities come a little closer to cooling down. There's sort of a plate-spinning thing to using all of your abilities correctly and efficiently. Another thing XC borrows from MMO's is the aggro system. Enemies are intelligent and will pursue party members based on which ones they perceive to be the biggest threat. You can use this to your advantage by forcing enemies to attack more durable defensive party members and to protect more squishy party members. This creates depth and makes the game less RNG than a standard JRPG.
I really am not a fan of RPGs lately and specifically JRPGs but this game really did it for me so I thought I would gush a bit. I hope the game sells decently so Nintendo isn't such a stickler about future releases.
