So I tune my guitar down 1/4 step, play the exact same tab I wrote before and it actually sounds pretty close. I'm still having a little trouble with the Guitar I Part II, something just isn't right haha :D Fooling around with this song on April fool's day has been funny indeed. |

I am a self taught guitarist and I'm not extremely knowledgeable about the physics of guitar. So, I've got a question about a "realization" I have made. hehe Been fumbling around with the 1/4 step and standard tuning tonight, trying to feel out this tune. And my question is: And I think the tab, when played tuned down 1/4 step, sounds more accurate. At least the first melody part (which is what I was experimenting with) Just wondering if I'm on the right track or a bumbling idiot haha =^.^= |

That's a tricky song. You got the last note of guitar 1 part 1 wrong and mixed up the melody and harmony a bit on part 2 e|----------------------10------------------------- B|-13----------10h11-13----13---------------------- G|-------10----------------------10---------------- D|-------------------------------------13---------- A|------------------------------------------------- x2 E|------------------------------------------------- 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + Guitar I: Melody Part II e|-------------------------------------11-9-------- B|-13-11-10----------10----------------------13-11- G|----------12-10-12----10-12---------------------- D|------------------------------------------------- A|------------------------------------------------- E|------------------------------------------------- 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + Guitar II: Lead Fill Part I e|------------------------------------------------- B|------------------------------------------------- G|-------------------------------------8----------- D|-------------------------------------10---------- A|------------------------------------------------- x2 E|------------------------------------------------- 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + Guitar II: Lead Fill Part II e|------------------------------------------------- B|------------------------------------------------- G|-------------------------------8--10-12---------- D|------------------------------------------------- A|------------------------------------------------- E|------------------------------------------------- 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + Here's the bass, you can add the rhythm G|------------------------------------------------- D|------------------------------------------------- A|---8---8---8---9--8---8---8---9--4---4---6---6--- E|-----8---8---8------8---8---8------4---4---6-----

Ya, It is a little more intricate than I thought. So did you read my last post? My 3 stooges attempt at understanding tuning a 1/4 step down. haha Did you figure it out in standard tuning? EDIT: I played it in both standard and 1/4 step down tuning and they both sound pretty good. |

I think I've finally slayed this Mana Beast =^.^= hah I'm going with Standard tuning. I also believe I figured out the little harmony part for Guitar II Part II that was giving me so much trouble. Updated the tab at the top. Thanks EDIT: Threw the Bass in too |
Quarter step flat is standard

Quarter step flat is standard tuning, just with A = 427 instead of A = 440. You're missing a note in the melody, in this part: e|-------------------------------------11-9-------- B|-13-11-10----------10----------11----------13-11- G|----------12-10-12----10-12---------------------- D|------------------------------------------------- A|------------------------------------------------- E|------------------------------------------------- 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + The last chord is wrong. Also, IMO the tab is a little confusing having headings before each part. You should cut down on the headings. Maybe write it as two parts, instead of dividing it into 8 pieces or whatever it is.

Hahaha sorry. I guess I had 50 headings so referencing a wrong part would be easier when submitting. Good call :-) EDIT: Cleaned it up |

My tuner doesn't have an option to go 427Hz but I used this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFdpyhtEOzI I'm still kind of confused as to what 1/4 step tuning does exactly, so I just went with standard tuning for the sake of others not familiar with it as well. |
Auri, when you said the last

Auri, when you said the last chord was wrong did you mean the G8/D10? I think houstonian had G9/D11 before but I thought the 8/10 sounded better. Is neither of those correct? And if you are still confused about 1/4 tuning, you should know that one fret is half a step. When people use half-step down tuning (EbAbDbGbBbeb) every string moves down a half step. If you moved down(or up) two frets it would be a full step. So 1/4 step isn't quite a fret but in between two frets. Sometimes you'll see a 1/4 bend so instead of bending up to the next fret(which would be a 1/2 step bend) you bend to the pitch between those two frets.

That kind of sheds a light on it HSL, thanks. I'm familiar with 1/2 step being 1 and D standard being 2 frets over to tune. So do you think just tuning down a quarter step will make this tab sound right or would the notes/frets need to be altered as well? EDIT: Thanks both of you for being so patient and chill. I want to get this one right on and also expand my knowledge of guitar. :-) |
You don't have to change

You don't have to change anything. The tab can be played as standard tuning with those frets. You just have to tune your guitar down a bit if you are playing with the original. I made a note about the tuning on the tab http://www.gametabs.net/sword-mana/cactus-house

This song has been pretty hard for me to figure out by ear, so I bet there are a few mistakes. hehe
Like with Guitar I Part II, it is so fast I think I may have gotten it wrong. Also there is another instrument that starts playing during Part II that was throwing me off.
It would be cool to know the notes of that extra instrument from Part II but I'm mainly concerned with if I got this one close haha
Thanks and Happy April Fool's day foolies =^.^=
