DESERT

I was listening to the lanayru desert theme from skyward sword and realized how good the desert themes are in Nintendo games: Gerudo Valley, OoT Spirit Temple, Gritzy Desert, Dusty Dune Galaxy

So basically middle eastern/arabic/egyptian or any other genre you think might be fitting

My Entry

Instead of Middle Eastern/Egyptian, I took an American West approach. I imagined it as an 8bit sidescroller where you work your way up an old steampowered train (cruising through the desert) on the outside and on top of the passenger cars, taking out baddies along the way (using your powers of kung fu of course!).

Sick Kage!!!! Made me think of Jackie Chan's old-school "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" film.

I made a video for my entry. I miraculously got my mp3 player to record it on my second try, but it won't do shit anymore.
I'm getting a real mic soon :-)

This is the rhythm part of a song my brother and I are working on called "Life of a Fly"
I had that super echo-ey effect goin' so I took a shot at recording it and it worked hehe XD

Thanks, I like yours

Snake in the Eagle's Shadow is actually one of my favorite movies with Hwang Jang Lee. Yuen Woo-ping's first and also the debut of Beggar So, played by Yuen Woo-ping's father irl!!

edit:Roam in the Desert

Well here's what I made within the hour. I envisioned some guy just alone in the desert just wandering aimlessly because he was lost. So yea.

soundsandstuff - This is a hot beat. It's like a dance version of the stone tower temple music. A little short though, I didn't hear any variation the second half.

kage - You're getting really good at that 8-bit music; I still haven't figured out famitracker. I was thinking of adding western to the original description, but you thought of it yourself!

iamhoustonian - Really liking the atmosphere. You two should add more instruments, although the rhythm part stands well on its own.

jit - You got the sense of emptiness/loneliness down. The part around 0:45 has that middle eastern feel I was looking for.

Great entries guys! I'm going to go with kage's western kung fu tune.

Rock on Kage!! Everybody did awesome.

My entry was just me playing what my brother normally plays as rhythm in our song "Life of a Fly". With a little improv in the end :-)
I do some Spanish/Middle Eastern style lead when we play it together hehe.

Thanks hsl and good job

I just heard about a game called Journey for PS3 that is coming out soon. It seems to have good desert music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXIuc8YBkZ8

The game seems interesting too, gives me a bit of a SOTC vibe
