Yeah, slightly. I finally finished it a week or two ago (took me so long bc I've been super busy), and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I guess I played it too much when it came out, and went so many years without replaying it, I forgot a lot of things from the game and I remembered the stupid things. I will play again though.

@ lemon, seconded, but he looked wicked cool, and the atmosphere was very creepy and ominous; good idea, poorly executed--shoulda been foreshadowed says i... then again, hes like some type of supreme deity, so i dont really know how foreshadowing coulda been done, even though ff is fictional in millions of ways.

@ kara, yes. DAT BASS!!!

but, in conjunction with:

@ bacardi, rose of may is my personal favorite theme. freyas theme was also quite excellent, as well as the terra theme. also the memoria theme, that some seriously sweet (as in sugary) sounding creepiness; reminded me of the shinra basement theme in vii for its mood

in all honesty, and even though vi is my favorite in the franchise, i think ix was sculpted, both in scope and gaming appeal; but thats just an opinion, argue it. fine. but i stand by that

VI is the best overall I think, but IV is my personal favorite for different reasons. I'd say IX was the best on the Playstation.

Never played any FF games, but started listening to the soundtracks in order. Just listened to the FFVIII soundtrack yesterday and will be listening to IX soon. Now all of the praise Uematsu gets finally makes sense!

Onto the tab:

Does this sound better for the intro

e|---------------------------------12------13-12---|
B|-----12----13-12------15-13---------15-----------|
G|--14---------------------------------------------|
D|--------14-------14---------14-------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------| x2

Here you just missed the B16

e|-----------12--15--14-----------19--17~---|------10--12-------------------|
B|--/13--15--------------15-16-17-----------|--13----------10~---------10~--|
G|------------------------------------------|----------------------12-------|
D|------------------------------------------|-------------------------------|
A|------------------------------------------|-------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------|-------------------------------| x2

And the last four notes here you tabbed the harmony, but it should stay consistent

e|--/13-13--12--10------10----------------------------|
B|------------------13------13--12------10-12-10-9~---|
G|----------------------------------------------------|
D|----------------------------------------------------|
A|----------------------------------------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------|

And good catch on the last measure, I didn't even hear those notes at first becuase the volume was low

I'm in bed, so I don't have my guitar out, I always trust your judgment so if you want to keep it like that I"m cool with it lol. Can't believe you've never played a FF, lol, but glad you're listening to the music. Any favorites so far? I'm between IV and VI, IV is just so nostalgic for me it takes me back to being 8 years old. Then again VI was like a year later so same thing haha.

Also about Necron, 55000 HP is WAY too damn low for a final boss. Maybe add another zero. That was the first time I really watched the ending and it got me pretty good. I'm pretty sensitive and I admit there were some tears shed.

I dont know what the fuck is up with Final Fantasy and random end bosses that have NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING.

Also as for the hp thing, Idunno. I think JRPGS have a fundamentally flawed difficulty structure. Bosses like Ozma and Necron and others can be either really easy or really hard based on RNG and status effects. Albeit you can equip certain gear and skills to cut down on the really bad ones. At which point the fight is incredibly easy. It's either "will this status effect fuck me over?" or "can my healer heal faster than the boss can deal damage?". If you can't manage one or the other than just grind your way out! WEEEEE

That isn't to say western RPGs aren't easy, but I think in general the only time an RPG is "hard" is when you have to commit 200 hours to grinding to progress, as opposed to some form of reflex or strategy.

/rant.

Nostalgia will always dictate which soundtrack is our favorite methinks. Despite me HATING the game to death, FF2 has a pretty good soundtrack. (the real FF2, not FF4 which I enjoyed.)

The only thing I had was Zidane got confused when it did that one attack but I killed it so fast that was the only problem.

Have you ever played The 7th Saga? It's an old Enix game (before Enix merged with Square and they both sucked), and it's known for being one of the most grind-heavy RPGs. It's also a game about luck, sometimes you just run into the wrong monsters...any battle can spell doom. It's really hard but it's a good game and once you get the hang of it, is fun...I finally beat it like a year or two ago, I had been playing it since the early 90s. It's also got a really really good soundtrack.

FF2 isn't bad. I think when FFIV came out everyone realized how much of a genius Uematsu is. 3 showed a lot of promise though, it had the first boss theme and he did it perfectly, it's still to this day one of my favorite boss themes. He always got that "urgent, this is a more serious battle" feeling down.

I dont' hate 2 but I won't go out of my way to play it more than once every few years. The NES version is extremely tedious, I'd rather play the FF Origins one (not so much the GBA one due to them making it easier). It's different

i wasnt a fan of II either honestly; it felt really generic and... herpadurpy

as for final bosses, in response to kara, i thought FFI had a nice little ending finale. and as far as OSTs go in the series, i think VI and VII were spectacular, and VIII had some awesome music as well; i really wish i would have given that game more of a chance--i wantred to like it, i really did, but i couldnt

also, bacardi, what was the standard party you used? zidane, dagger/garnet, steiner, and vivi were my choices

FF1-10 are the best by far,

FF1-10 are the best by far, X-2 was a decent game just to pass time, nothing more. XII was not bad, a little fun but the battle SUCKED give me my ATB bar back SE you fags, then XIII WAS A HORRIBLE SHAMBLES, I got to the 'open' world fields bit which had nothing in it, but didnt play it again for months out of boredom and then i got a new ps3 cus my old 1 broke an i lost the saves, overall the game sucked, the battle system, the cringey fag chars like Vanille and Hope, the average story, the music was ok so that redeemed it up to a 5/10.

FF1 - played it, it sucks because when you die its nearly impossible to revive them, but that aside its a fun RPG with a basic story and nice music. 7.5/10

FF2 - Never really played it, good music with basic story, seems similar to FF1 7/10
FF3 - See FF2^ 6/10
FF4 - First FF with a decent story, good battles, good chars, great music score, I give this 8/10
FF5 - Never played it, supposed to be good
FF6 - Played about 2 hours, didnt really enjoy it even tho it's supposed to be the best

FF7 - First one I played, awesome everything apart form graphics but who cares? Great story, chars, emotion, battle system, equipment system... plain AWESOME 9.5/10 replayed it about 8 times

FF8 - Only played this on the psn copy since I never got the original. Great game, Yes the story can be abit silly, but who cares, I enjoyed it when Rinoa teased Squall it wss funny, good battle system, good junction... good game. Great music I give it 8.5/10

FF9 - What a game, fantastic characters, one of the best cast of an FF game, Zidane with his cheeky banter... great battles, great equipment, fantastic music score - 10/10

FF10 - Great game, a move away from traditional, but they got it spot on, magnificent music score, particularly Run and enemy attack which imo were the best run music and boss music of an entire FF, which helped Nobuo out as he did his usual quirky character themes. The story is arguably the best of all the FFs, great graphics and voice, although the laughin scene is cringey to watch with another person. Overall I think this deserves 9.5 aswell

Oh and the sphere grid was superb replacement to level ups. At first I was annoyed, but in the end i found it great

FFX-2 - 6/10. Enjoyable game with a decent ATB battle system. Bit faggish and girly alot of the time, but a decent little game, ovbiously not top FF quality.

FFXII - 7/10. A good game, nothing more, nothing less. Horrid music score except for the main theme and the boss theme, horrid battle system, uninspiring characters, Balthier aside... good equipment system like back to the FF9 style, overall a good game but not spectacular

FFXIII - 5/10, it only got to 5 because I enjoyed the music score, nowhere near FF7-10 quality but still decent. Story is average, chars are annoying and gay, battle system worst ever, 1 char only? Omg, awful, I will not be buying FFXIII-2, sadly I will have to wait til about 2014 to see what they spew up for FF15, hopefully a return to basics, Nobuo with the music score, ATB turn based battles equipment, level ups. No more 'Innovative' rubbish like FF13 please
