a couple of you may have noticed my mentioning losing sleep, i average about 2 hours a night, sometimes less, and its beginning to get to me. no more days, theyre all the same, no minutes or hours, just moments and instants. alone with my thoughts all day and all night long... well, it starts to play on your sanity a bit.

i have ridiculous night terrors, and for those of you who know what they are, you know its a very frightening and bewildering experiance.

if not, some people refer to them as "hag dreams"; basically a waking nightmare which seems endless, and is more often than petrifying and sometimes, though only subconciously, painful.

ive taken herbal supplements, namely melatonin, and they worked for a time, but i think perhaps my body has built up an immunity to them. i find if im drinking, i can get to sleep much easier, though i dont get nearly close to the requisited 8 hours a night.

there was time when i could maintain good mental techniques, hypnotizing myself, and at times initiating an out of body experiance, but that ability is severely beginning to wan, as for me it requires a focus, and when i could do it well, i was writing a lot more, but now i dont write as much, as inspiration has run somewhat dry, therefore i dont have the mental clarity to carry out such techniques; besides, it began giving me headaches.

so does anyone know of any other way to accomplish my task? be it a supplement, a mental regime, a spirtual intervention of sorts, what have you.

at this point, help is required from someone other than myself.

exercising isnt a bad idea, i need to get into shape anyhow; so id really be killing two birds with one stone.

ive considered meditation as well, help center my thoughts and focus my mind, but i havent the slightest idea how to meditate properly. surely theres some articles online somewhere, ill just have to look. i remember reading something about it when i did some research on astral projection--stumbled across something about buddhist scripture and it eventually led into the devas.

i think i might try to find that again...

Jesus christ, as far as two hours of sleep goes sounds like you shouldn't be on an internet forum, you should be talking to a doctor. The only perscription I can give you is perhaps take melatonin an hour before you want to go to bed, works every time for me. That + Excersize and a good fap before bed.
Aren't night terrors and sleep paralysis two different things? I thought people didn't know when they were having night terrors.
Gotta say, sleep paralysis is fucking awful. A year ago I had lots of free time over the summer, so I started trying to lucid dream. I got kind of good at it, but the result was that I'd wake up in sleep paralysis everyonce in a while. I'd wake up after a dream and not be able to move, and it would feel like something heavy was sitting on me, and theres this overwhelming feeling of dread thats universal throughout every experience.
The worst part is that I've also seen 6 foot tall black figures in my room almost every time. Theres always audio too, you hear weird morphing sounds and screeches in your ears, not to mention your heart pounds like fucking crazy.

skip to 1:20,

sorry for derailing this if you're not talking about sleep paralysis and you are indeed instead talking about night terrors.

@ jacob, they are generally

@ jacob, they are generally two diferent things, but not an uncommon thing to happen simultaneously. the initiation of a night terror usually causes the sleep paralysis, at least in my experiance, which i fairly considerable, considering ive been like this for several months.

and yes, intriguing... the first time. i have them every night. one was so bad, as soon as my wits were about me, i had to write about it. my worst one though... the colourless room and the man with no face. that one was bad, and the scariest thign about it is i was lucid for it, but i still couldnt escape

@ lemon, knowing whether or not youre having a night terror has to do with mental capabilities and level of conciousness. mine is considerable, at least when i could hypnotize myself, still is i suppose, but ive lost focus, so its harder for me to concentrate.

that feeling of dread? it can take a form sometimes. its not the hag that makes it bad, shes beocme an old friend i think, its that brooding and somewhat omniscient force. lucid dreaming is dangerous, well, it canbe, if your mind can handle the inclusion of new information. it opens pathways within your own mind that you had never previously known were there before, i call it the vibrations, cause thats what it feels like when i enter hypnogonia (sleep-state) and then re-enter a semi-hypnagogia (state of pre-sleep). its the key to astral projection, and ultimately enlightenment. do it too often though, time starts to slip, you feel less real, and everything else around you seems to lose more subtsance and significance.

you should both look into that theory i mentione earlier, the theory of the holographic universe, theres an awesome 7-8 part video series on youtube. really interesting stuff.

do you drink a lot of alchohol? my brother used to have sleep paralysis once a month, and he told me that he did some research on it and found its more common to have SP episodes if you drink more .
"the colourless room and the man with no face. " jesus thats terrifying. I know this is hard to convince yourself when you're lucid, but you have to remember that everything in the dream is your control (I never am able to really wrap my mind arround that until after i've awoken though.) Also, I didn't notice in your first post that you said you already take melatonin. My bad.
at some point, I was interested in astral projecting (since I had begun to experience it the first time I had SP, I floated out of my body which was fucking weird, but at the time I had no idea what it was), but to be honest, it sounds too fucking scary for me.
You ever go on dreamviews wayfarer? maybe they can help you out better there.

Geez this sounds bad wayfaerer! I used to have sleep problems where right as I was started to drift off to sleep, it felt like someone was shaking me, or I was on a rollercoaster and the upside down loops were endless. I'd loose about 1-2 hours of sleep each night. Sometimes I'd even wake up in the middle of the night, and when I was going back to sleep, it would happen again. I'd wake up crying and pray to God that it would stop, and eventually it did, after about a year or so. I think part of the reason for my recovery was praying to god and every night, I'd tell myself I wasn't going to let it happen, I'd get a peaceful night sleep. But to this day, I still pray EVERY SINGLE NIGHT that it will NEVER happen again. I feel as though God blessed me with a miracle, and I hope none of you ever have to experience that.

the thing about melatonin, is its not a sleep inducer; its a sleep aid, an assistance. and apparently building an immunity to it is kind of common in insomniacs; an over abundance of anything will eventually cause decensitization as we all know.

and no i dont drink alot, per se, except on weekends i get hammered (except this weekend--didnt wanna go to church and be half-cut nor hungover), but youre brother is right, it happens more often with more alchohol consumption. the thalamus controls sleep, and assumedly with alchohol having drained ones brain, the thalamus would ultimately become affected as well, but probably only after extreme and/or prolonged consumption of alchohol.

what youre speaking of there lemon is an out-of-body-experiance or OBE, and is merely the first step in astral projection. an OBE is used as a springboard to "transcend". theres no particular method of initiating projection--you have to find your own way once you get that far. music was my focus (particularly tool, one song from static-x, in flames and sunn-o), and is apparently a common focus for those who attempt projection. and it isnt scary at all; i dunno if you read my post about drowning (see thread "waters of the earth"), but its a lot like that, a few seconds of panic and terror, then its like you feel fear for the last time, just utter peace and a very whimsicle sense of being "released". all it is, is opening ones mind to allow the entering of new information, allowing pathways within ones own mind to open, or rather, be "re-opened" (as a child these pathways are always there, just rarely tapped into).

step 1: find your focus
step 2: OBE, use it as a springboard mixed with your focus
step 3: A lucid waking dream; when reached, open your mind; youll know what i mean if you manage it.

then its all lights and pretty sounds baby, way to go.

and... what is "dreamviews"? ive never heard of it.

im far from a man of faith, as some already know; im a severe agnostic, and i hold my own belief system and faith very dear.

but, that being said, i uphold a very high degree of respect for those who have an upstanding faith in god; i do not rag on others religions just because i do not believe them; in my faith, everyone is right (but im not going into detail about it i dont think, might upset some people, and i dont want that; if you really wanna know, ask, ill explain.)

continue holding your faith link, faith is a strong feeling, and if held, will keep ones life in straight form.

your words are fascinating and encouraging brah, maybe i'll work up the courage to practice it some more this break.

link, I was having frequent nightmares, not like yours, but still scary dreams, about once a week over the summer. I woke up terrified every time, and I had to do a similar thing. Its not exactly the same as praying to god I guess, but I would think every night before I went to bed, "I'm not going to have a bad dream tonight, and if I do, I wont be scared." Worked every night I said it to myself. I think you just have to convince yourself, weather it be your own willpower or god, you just have to tell yourself that you won't have those bad dreams.

Also, random fact, up until I was about 12, I would go sleep on my brothers floor if I had a nightmare
one night he rolled over not knowing I was there and he vomited on me.

if youve experianced it all once before, you can train your mind to make it happen again.

trying listening to tool, particularly songs like lateralus, eulogy, viginti trees (WEIRD ASS SONG), right in two, and especially parabol/parabola, and really read into the lyrcis and hear the dissonance. the bass is a driving force in the band, auri i think youd like. think pearl jam meets... buddha.

silence gets to me, i notice it like any other sound, and it drives me mad. i have to sleep with a fan on just to drown away the silence.

doubtless if you could find a way to incorporate artwork into it, it would work, you clearly have a passion for art. a painting on your ceiling perhaps? that could lead to some wierd things though.

itd be interesting results no doubt

judith is probably my favorite song from APC, and three libras is classic, also a really good tune.

anything with that 90s vibe man, i love the fuckin 90s. stone temple pilots, alice in chains, nirvana, temple of the dog, soundgarden, pearl jam, soul asylum, tool. the grungey stuff and the mellow tunes.

Have you tried pot? Serious question. The only trouble I ever have is I can stay up too long. Easily 20 hours a day, despite working, running a few miles and staying busy. Just have that energy. I would argue that exercising does NOT wear me out but in fact is part of the reason I have so much energy. You could try it though. There are NO negatives to exercising.
