StrangeJam's Challenge Riff of the week #1

StrangeJam

Who's down for SJ's challenge riff.
If you master it I guarantee your technique will improve big time.
This week I challenge you with an alternate picking riff, a slight variation of Rough Edge's intro, with a twist.

Mastering this riff? What counts as mastering it?
Playing with precision and cleanly at the given tempo, not going offbeat at all.

But StrangeJam this riff loops itself 24 times!

Just play the entire loop like 2 times .

Okay so what do I have to do?

Record yourself playing the riff, just audio, audio with video, doesn't matter, once you meet the criteria above. Winner of each week will be featured on the frontpage with a link to his/her entry, as an article. but that's just for fun, the real reward will be towards your own guitar technique.

Oh yeah. If you're wondering i'll only challenge you gais with stuff I can play myself. so it shouldn't get too hard.

HARD MODE:
Do the pinched harmonic at the end.

EDIT: Question: Do you think if I suck with a pick and/or alternate picking I would be better off grinding out things like this or just playing random songs that have alternate picking?

wayfaerer:even if you can't record the practice is pretty useful~

Bacardi: This is actually from Sengoku Basara! Mintjam used a different version of the same song, which still rocked ofc.

tis fun to play, little bit tricky to pick up on, but this typa thang is my main regime for guitar anyways.

i like this though, it has a warm up feel to it methinks.

i havent a good riff to jam with for awhile, so thanks for the introduction!

Oh wait sorry lol. I read while i was walking outside with my phone ; i cant really check right now, but if i recall correctly measurpe 3 features a slide slide right? Something like 12 into 15, that part is indeed a slide, and i believe i left the picking notation in the repetition of the same slide riff so that people be careful on how they pick after said slide.

So the question is, do people

I would play that part differently because I don't like barring when playing single notes.

Oh snap as expected of CPX,well played indeed, grats. Dun' worry next time I'll make it moar interesting! btw did you play the pinch harmonic at the end? my speakers are too terrible atm to tell lol.

So we have our first entry! but still a while left before the deadline, let's see who else completes this before the fat lady sings! remember if the need arises, there can be multiple winners depending on the quality of your playing~
however who shall step up and challenge CPX's entry for now hm?~~

The pinch harmonic was slight which was why you couldn't really hear it. It was one of those half pinch harmonic half note kind of thing.

EDIT: BTW, you should put a deadline date in the first post. Kind of confused when it ends when you posted this thread on a Friday.

Are we supposed to strictly follow the picking motions on the GP5 or just a strict alt pick motion will do?
Since the last note is an upwards picking motion and I do not know if we can do a pinch harmonic on an upward pick.

picking rules?

so the rule is that we have to strictly play the whole thing with just alternate picking (up,down,up,down) right? If its like that it'd be impossible to get a P.H on that last note with an upstroke.

I have already asked this.
Strangejam has said that you can modify small things such as this.
So you can start with an upstroke. The challenge still exists even if you modify it this way.
