Dumb question about a technique

Ok I feel stupid for not knowing the name of this: but is there a term for the way some guitarists do a downstroke right before certain notes or bends? a2c of Mintjam does it all the time and I think it sounds awesome. It's that "chk" noise and I can clearly see he downstrokes to the string he's playing the note on, or bending. I would guess it's some sort of palm muting, but everything I've looked up is just about muting when playing rhythm to make it quieter. lol I hope one of you knows what I'm talking about, because I'd like to get better at it.

He does it a lot in this song, namely at 24, 30, 33 seconds in

we all call it "flat-muting" here, my buddies and i, but thats because we dont know the actual term for the technique.

mumford and sons use it in that tune little lion man, and it sounds awesome.

is the technique youre refering to borderline slap percussion?

I think she means the sound that comes from the pick hitting the string right when he does the vibrato. Yeah it seems more like a dead note I guess.

i dunno, like i said, i dunno the actual name of the technique, but ive heard the phrase dead-note coined before, just never knew what it was and never thought to ask about it.

Well I looked it up and there was nothing on how to do it. I'm guessing he palm mutes while doing the downstroke? I've messed around with it a bit but not very good at all.

yes! but its like palm-mting and fret muting at the same time, i think.

like i said, we all call it flat-muting where im from, but i highly thats the technical term, but you have the right idea. takes some getting used to. do ti on acoustic first to get the feel for it, thats how i did it anyhow.

Not sure if I'm really shining any light on this one, but try palm muting over the pickup instead of the conventional spot.
That's just something I do when trying for that "chk" sound while still playing a note.

Will do :)

I love doing that, and there isn't much trick to getting the hang of it so dw.
it's easier to do properly if you have some basic notions of downsweeping. or sweep picking in general.

basically yeah. doesn't matter, tho iirc for it to be called raking it needs to be ghost notes.

There are many ways to rake.

There are many ways to rake. Some people mute the strings above the bending string with their left fingers. I personally find that annoying and use my right palm. It does take a while to get it down, even I occasionally miss them and end up with a lot of bass from the muted strings. Just make sure that the last string you are raking is the one you are bending, so work on that accuracy of stopping at that string after raking through the above strings.

i cant sweep for shit, but

i cant sweep for shit, but ironically, the more i practice sweeping, the better i get at raking.

When practicing sweeps start really really slow and build up from there. And of course, make sure you're practicing with the right motions. Also damn it cpx, okay lets be moe avatars bros.
