Oh, sorry! I didn't see it. I usually only check the submissions forum, lately. I do see WIP stuff sometimes if they're still in the 5 latest posts on the front page, but I don't specifically check the WIP forum too much. Anyway, here is your tab! http://www.gametabs.net/breath-fire-ii/grab-tail Bacardi's suggestion in that thread looks like a good one, BTW. Of course, it's fine either way, it's just easier to play cleanly when you split up notes across strings like she suggested.

But recently, I heard Patitucci and then Satriani both say that you shouldn't be locked into a single way of playing stuff. They said you should have lots of ways open to you to play anything. So I've been thinking, I need to expand my mental dictionary of ways to play stuff :-) And playing your thing with the shifts makes me think I should practice more chromatic patterns! In that second pattern, I'm always doing 1 2 3 4 then shifting four frets. But before, when I played your tab, I had a hard time, because I had no muscle memory for when to move my hand. Now I can play it your way or Bacardi's :-D Oh well, that was fun. I'm going to make up more chromatic patterns and go practice now!

Yeah you like it now? haha. I literally don't know a single scale by name, but I think I know them because I just figured it out by experimenting. I have a friend that I was doing live covers of secret of mana and chrono trigger with, and he liked a lot of my original songs. He said off timing and odd scales come naturally to me and he has to "try" to do stuff like that. He took guitar lessons for 7 years when he was younger too. I do think I could benefit from learning all the scales, but I feel that I have progressed to the point that I can keep spontaneously exploring guitar and play what I like to hear. You're an awesome person and I'm glad my awkward guitar playing intrigued you hehe =^.^=. now go give those muscles amnesia lol :-) |

On a lot of songs I practice, I do experiment with the way I play them. It might just be considering where my fingers are, or wanting to do a slide, or you get the idea. It usually is easier to play like I suggested, but once you've really got the song down you can try different things and it can be fun! No rules :P |
