Tune Compilation #1: Due July 14th

Okay, so Tune Contest died a horrible, fiery death. Well, maybe there'll be another, at some point. But in the meantime, it is the nineties, and there is time for:

Tune Compilation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are the rules, you ask?

  • If you enter, you win.
  • If you don't enter, you LOSE.

In other words, if you want to be one of the winners, it's highly encouraged to enter! Otherwise, things don't look so good for you. Also, people can still talk about their favorites or what they liked or disliked. Opinions are not against the rules!

Hmm. What OTHER rules are there?

  • Post your song here, on or before July 1st!
  • It should be longer than two and a half seconds
  • There's no particular theme. But, if people want to do this again next month, someone can come up with a theme.
  • If you really need a theme in order to get some sort of inspiration, then go outside, and write a song about what you see.

Okay, sure. But what OTHER rules are there?

  • Talk about your song when you post it!! At least a little bit.
  • Unless you don't want to.

Okay, okay, I get it. But what OTHER rules are there?

  • Snails!!!

Well, those are the rules. Good luck everyone! Try not to lose!

When i wrote this song, my 1st intention was to make a kind of opening theme... Somthing abit majestyc, so i composed the choir 1st and after add the Bell during the 1st minute of the song.

After i added the drums, like a heart beat (it reminds me a song from ff7) and i decided to make to song goes on.
During the 2nd part the tempo raise like if a battle started.
The 2nd aprt is playing twice :)

It's my 1st "complexe" compositon i hope you will enjoy it and maybe you can tell me what the song makes you imagine =D

Maybe I should have made it a rule that they have to be new songs. Hehe.

Hashel, enter a second time! :-)

since I aint been around here's this: Shoot it with a crossbow, sounds like a GREAT idea

'twas supposed to be my real entry for tune contest 6 [character themes] but i hit a wall. shame, i really love this one, but around :50 it gets meh and at 1:00 onward notes are missing. even tried to do a quick wrapup on it now but was reminded why it killed me, the note that should follow where the melody ends i never could figure out what was in my head. and i still can't, D# sounds rightest but still incorrect.

i WILL finish it though, and by the 1st so i'll get it in here. even if i just chop it into a shorter song i want it done. it is the reason i lost my will to do these, i'd wanted to enter the melodrama one [7] since i loved that premise, and the battle theme for the 8th was when i dropped off the face of the internet.

so yeah hope this dead bird falls off my neck soon!

Hashel: i like that track, but it had to grow on me a bit. don't like the harpsichord's sound, i think it'd be better only having that come in for it's solo part in the middle. the composition isn't bad, it's just that the harpsichord sounds bad with the choir, bass, bell, and drum which work well together. i dunno, it just seems those 4 sound decently realistic but the harpsi sounds like snes music and it doesn't mesh for me.
oh, and don't forget to take everything i say with a heap of salt.

edit: oh right, along with the composer's block the guitar soundfont was pissing me off with buzzing on long notes and clacking on some. which is a shame, it's the best one i've found but i've never edited them so it'd be a whole adventure just to do that, thus contributing to my lack of will in writing.

Here is my unnamed song nbr#01 !
It was originaly a Rock song, 1st part somme arpeggios with sweet melody, 2nd part some rhythm chords, both played twice. 3rd part the choir comes in, bass tempo is higher with slow melody. 4th part harmony comes in until the end of the song. It's a kind pf crescendo all along the song. i maybe should add drums...?
I don't know why but i can't find a name for this song... may you plz tell me what comes in your mind when you listen to it? ^^

Listening to your new song now, awesome work!! it really does build up nicely.

it does seem like it should be bringing familiar concepts into my head, but i'm an auditory thinker, not visual, plus you asked, so it's like there's something familiar on the tip of my tongue, er, brain, but it's like roping smoke, i can't get a hold of it.

i guess if you're clutching for straws, you could use "roping smoke", but that doesn't fit to me, it just sounded like a cool song name after i typed it :)

here's what i've done with my song, dropped that acoustic guitar cos it just drove me crazy. but i've got two versions, one with a distorted guitar and one with a smooth guitar. they both sound good to me considering i hate the fake guitar sound, but i couldn't figure which i prefer. So Please, point out what's wrong with and what could be better with either one.
Smooth Albatross
Albatross Overdrive

Is the composition good? the instrumentation and mixing? any nagging problems?
you won't hurt my feelings, just be honest.

edit: oh yeah, not gp but tuxguitar so yeah same thing.

Souds like Tuxguitar have better soundfiles than guitar pro xD

I prefer electric version, on the smooth one the choir volume is to hight comapred to guitar volume

Maybe add some drums during the 2nd half of the song ^^

Thanks for giving your opinion on mine =)

oh the soundfonts i put in using xmplay with a midi plugin that uses sf2's. it's a very convoluted setup.
and yeah that jazz guitar is like 0 presence so it was hard to mix properly. sounds good on my speakers but not my headphones.

ah, drums, my old nemesis...
mine are always way too complicated or way too simple, and always horrible. and i only have a clue what to do with them if it's a hard-driving song or the like, but i guess that's why i need to work on them.

i also use xmplay but xuwawa and i most likely have different soundfont libraries/configurations

For these i used "Soul

For these i used "Soul Oohs.sf2" on both, then "Karmac Distortion Guitar.sf2" (KDG Reverb) on one and "StevesLesPaul-R5.sf2" (LPB2-Jazz1) on the other. Just in case you wanna suggest better ones :)

"ProTrax_Classical_Guitar.sf2" was what i was trying to use, and is on the earlier version. If anyone knows of a cleaned-up version I'd be ever so grateful - i found one described as such but the link was dead and i couldn't track it down.
