cheap guitar restringing, HELP!

Guys, I own a Tagma 32mg, is one of the cheapest guitar I could get, is for beginners and all. Anyway I just sent her to a music shop to have it polished and fixed, since it's been 6 months, but then when I restringed then, I put some D'addario XL, Nylon, on it, and it sounds terrible!!! The E low string keeps on muting by itself, and it sucks, I wanna buy a Elixir Steel String High Tension, is it worthy, or there's another good steel strings that are as good?

Please do help me out, I've been without playing it for a while and it's starting to get on my nerves! Thanks

It looks like an electric guitar. It doesn't sound like you can put steel strings (meaning acoustic) OR nylon strings on it and expect to get anything good out of it.

Think of it this way. There's 3 kinds of guitars:

Lowest tension: Nylon (classical)
Medium tension: Electric guitars
Highest tension: Steel-string acoustic

Don't put the wrong kind of strings on a guitar. Don't put higher tension string on a guitar than it's made for, or you'll break it. Putting lower tension strings on it is probably a bad idea too, though you probably won't break it doing that.

Which kind of guitar is yours?

like plane said make sure you get strings for electric, medium tension and standard gauge, no point in using higher gauges unless you're gonna tune to dropped C. lighter gauges will break easily depending on your style.

Alright, thanks guys, I'm a real noob when it comes to electric guitars XC.

It's an Electric Guitar, Auri. A Tagma Memphis Mg-32. Real cheap, but I'm loving it!

So I'm supposed to get myself a Medium Tension, steel string, Elixir set, still a go, right? I'm soo going to the music shop tomorrow ^o^, feel like a little kid that's gonna buy a brand new video game!

Just to know, I just changed my strings on my classical guitar, too, I used to play Medium to Lower Tension, now I got myself a new and freaking expensive, High Tension D'addario set, and I'm loving the sound of it! Though for some reason I keep on finding like those tiny little hairs sticking out of the strings here and there, is it breaking or did I get myself a defective product? Anyway you've all been a great help so far, thanks again!

Do what SJ said and make sure

Do what SJ said and make sure you get strings for electric guitar. You can't use strings for steel-string acoustic on an electric guitar, as they're too high tension (and usually the strings are larger and will stick in the nut, anyway).

I like to play 9s :D Just make sure you tell the music store people you have an electric guitar, so they can help you get the right kind of string.

roger that, I'm gonna google it up, for a more cheap set. But I do get the importance of the tension now.

Ernie Balls are $4/pack for 9s or 10s, so most normal-ish strings are around that. Coated strings and flats cost more, but $15 for a normal pack is kind of insane.

Hahaha, yes they are. Glad that I don't own a bass. Don't know how things stand overseas but here bass strings are so damn expensive that most people change them once a year, and even less. We have a lot of string cooking over here... :D

how often do you change your bass strings auri?

cos i've never changed strings, but my last bass i had for a couple years, and i'm about at the 2 year mark with this acoustic i've got now.
i considered changing them but just to drop the copper strings, then i found that's pretty much all i can get for an acoustic, and what's made for them.

what does it take for one to pop and unwind?
i know more often it's a matter of when they come loose from the core, but how much use does it take for that to happen?

and what else happens to make them lose tone or whatever without actually breaking [unwind or loose core]?

Well, you don't have to wait until they break to change them! You can change them when they go dead :-)

I think you're supposed to get about a hundred hours of playing out of a set of strings. I donno, though.
